    This course is designed for the intermediate to advanced climber who wants to take their skills and training to the next level. The class will meet on a weekly basis as a team throughout the semester in preparation to travel and compete in the spring North California Intercollegiate Climbing Series. Must be able to belay and climb at the 5.8 level to sign up for this course.

These classes are designed to rekindle the body’s innate wisdom and brings each student to an enhanced awareness and appreciation of his or her unique body. The sessions are relaxing, refreshing and centering.

    The beginning class is designed as an introduction to the joys of snowboarding. Students will learn the techniques, the equipment, and mountain awareness to enable them to participate in this sport in a safe and enjoyable manner. More advanced classes will help students refine their skills, teach them to take the hard work out of snowboarding, and to handle more difficult slopes and snow conditions safely, and with greater ease.

    This course is designed for the advanced snowboarder who wants to take their riding to a competitive level. Students will utilize the entire mountain for their learning. Freeriding techniques incorporate “freestyle” skills where the focus is on tricks, jumps, and transitions. Overall course topics include off piste snowboarding, backcountry safety, park riding, goal setting, contest mentality, and injury avoidance. This course is ONLY offered during the summer in Argentina.

Students will learn the techniques, the equipment, and mountain awareness to enable them to participate in this sport in a safe and enjoyable manner. More advanced classes will help students refine their skills, teach them to take the hard work out of skiing, and to handle more difficult slopes and snow conditions safely, and with greater ease. Tuition does not include cost of ski pass; student season passes available at reduced rates.

    This course is an introduction to the wonderful world of Telemark skiing. Students will learn the techniques, the equipment, and the mountain awareness to enable them to participate in this sport in a safe and enjoyable manner. This course can accommodate a wide range of skiing abilities and will cover everything from the stance and position of the telemark turn to more advanced telemark styles.

    This course provides a Level 1 Avalanche Certificate through the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE). The course describes a framework for decision making and risk management in avalanche terrain. Through both classroom and field instruction, students will be provided with lessons and exercises that are practically oriented, useful, and applicable in the understanding of the various types and characteristics of avalanches, the planning and preparation needed to travel in avalanche terrain, the bonding tests used to determine snow stability and the rescue techniques used in case of an avalanche accident. NOTE: The materials fee provides students with a certificate and a student manual.

    This class includes the nationally recognized AIARE (American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education) Level 1 curriculum, and builds on this foundation with additional backcountry days around the Tahoe Basin. With classroom and field instruction, the course describes a framework for decision making and risk management in avalanche terrain. Successful students will receive an AIARE L1 certificate, followed by close instruction during additional field days. NOTE: The materials fee provides students with a certificate and a student manual.

    This field-based course is designed to provide students with necessary, advanced information to travel safely in wilderness areas. Topics include mountaineering techniques, cross country backpacking, rock climbing skills, snow travel techniques, peak ascents, and glissading. Much of the instruction occurs during field expeditions. Instruction will be both classroom and field-based. This course will meet in the classroom on Thursday 4/14 (7-9:30pm) and will be in the field for Saturday 4/16 & Sunday 4/17.
