Prerequisite: None Th is course familiarizes students with procedures for the location, excavation and appropriate curation of cultural artifacts derived from fi eld research projects in archaeology. Students will engage primarily in salvage archaeology, the careful and directed removal of cultural remnants from their original context because of danger posed by erosion, land development, animal disturbances, or other threats. Included with demonstrated techniques will be lectures about the philosophical and ethical issues associated with excavation, particularly considerations of the need for testing, the scope of excavations, the creation of a competent record and the disposition of artifacts. Directed discussion sessions and required daily journal entries will be used to help focus experiences and defi ne the relationship between our Homo sapiens past, present and future. 10-day intensive lab/lecture on-site session. Prerequisite: ARTS-1550 Th is course is an overview of a wide range of printmaking techniques with a closer introduction to three: Monotype, Woodblock Printing and Linocut. Th e emphasis of the course is on learning the principles and developing and mastering basic techniques, with attention to the design of the composition. Th e approach includes working both from objective reality and subjective imagination.
