Draws elements for explanation and discussion from social, political, artistic, literary, religious, and geographic manifestations, including indigenous and African cultural influences. Analyzes major trends in the overall development of Spanish and Spanish-American cultures, with emphasis on diversity, migration, conquest, colonialism, authoritarianism, and democracy. Also examines in depth a particular topic within Spanish and/or Spanish-American cultures and societies by interpreting various types of materials from various regions and/or time periods. The particular topic to be studied in a semester is announced in advance. Taught in Spanish.
