A study of the history of nations which have emerged since independence; emphasis on economic, political, cultural, and social developments of these nations, as well as relationships of these nations to others in the hemisphere.
Prerequisite:
Sophomore standing; HIST 195 (non-majors)

Examines the purpose for conducting and various uses of local and family history. Introduces the practical skills necessary to conduct research into local and family history.

Introduces the history of museums and historic sites, and the relationship between these institutions and public audiences. Explores the tools that public historians use to interpret and present the past in museum and historic site settings. None of the Public History courses (HIST 352, HIST 353, HIST 354, HIST 355, HIST 356, HIST 357) may be counted towards the Social Studies Education/History Track. Only one may be counted towards the History, BA.

EIntroduces the practices of collecting and preserving oral histories, as well as the research and public use of oral histories. None of the Public History courses (HIST 352, HIST 353, HIST 354, HIST 355, HIST 356, HIST 357) may be counted towards the Social Studies Education/History Track. Examines digital technologies as applied to the fields of academic and public history. Investigates digital media and study the state of digital historical work by scholars, teachers, public historians, and others. Introduces some of the programs used to create digital history.
