3 credit hours Prerequisite: JOU 121. This course, which is the "W" course for news-editorial, involves the student with interpretiveand investigative writing for the print media. Advanced work in material gathering, interviewing and specialized writing is examined. Three major writing assignments involving research and investigation will be completed. A minimum of 12 pages will be required to complete these story assignments. Writing styles are discussed and utilized, with emphasis on word choice, sentence structure, grammar usage and revision. Evaluation includes style, form and content.

Students will explore the production of photo stories/essays for print publications that demonstrate the importance of the visual image in communicating ideas and information. The course will also include study of photo editing, digital photography, design and layout, and law, ethics and history of photography. The student's final portfolio will show journalistic strength and versatility. Students must have a digital camera on which aperture, shutter speed and focus can be manually adjusted.
