3 credit hours Prerequisites: SOC 130, CJU 205 or permission of instructor. This course presents an overview of the role of the police in American society, the origins of policing, the nature of police organizations, and the patterns of relationships between the police and the public.

3 credit hours Prerequisite: CJU 205 or permission of instructor. A study of the origins, history, development, framework, methodologies, objectives and issues of institutional and community-based efforts by the criminal justice system to respond to persons convicted of criminal law violations.

3 credit hours Prerequisite: SOC 130 or permission of instructor. This course provides an overview of research and policy issues for considering privatized violence. The focus is on violence in families and dating relationships in the United States, although comparative profiles and policies internationally will be discussed. A primary theme will be to identify and understand the patterned use of violence within families and intimate relationships and roles of other institutions (political/legal, educational, economic) in addressing such violence.

3 credit hours Prerequisite: CJU 205 or permission of instructor. The study and analysis of the basic provisions of the United States Constitution, with an emphasis on individual rights and liberties protected by the first 10 and the 14th amendments, including a study of the fundamental principles of criminal procedure.

3 credit hours Prerequisite: Criminal justice, sociology, human services, or social science major, or permission of instructor. This course is offered to students who are majoring in criminal justice, sociology, human services, or social science, or who are otherwise invited by the faculty. The topic is selected by the professor conducting the course. The course may be repeated for credit with change in topic.

This course covers personal computer operations. Topics include computer history, terminology, uses of computers, and the effects of computers on society.

This course covers the history and use of the Internet. Topics include Internet history, how the Internet works, terminology, e-mail, World Wide Web, web pages, searching, e-commerce, privacy, security and current topics that involve the Internet.

This course covers creating a document with a table, chart, and watermark, generating form letters, mailing labels and directories, and creating a professional newsletter. The course will use Microsoft Word or equivalent software.
