The internship is intended to prepare the student for various aspects of congregational or educational music ministry, according to the student's interests and abilities. Responsibilities will be determined in consultation with the Director of Chapel Music and may include planning and leadership of worship services, researching sources for chapel music, organizing and rehearsing vocal and/or instrumental ensembles, teaching new music to the assembly, assisting with bulletin design, recruiting peer participants, and/or other areas of interest to the student. Prerequisite: Permission of instructor.

2 credits A study of the evolution of music in western European society from antiquity to the Baroque Era. Musical styles, forms, and genres are studied by reading textbooks, resource materials and journals, classroom discussion, listening to musical examples in and out of class while following the correlating music scores, and various writing projects. Prerequisite: Junior standing, Musicianship III or permission of instructor.

3 credits An exploration of traditional music from significant nonwestern cultures of the contemporary world, among them Africa, India and Indonesia. The historical, cultural and performance contexts will be surveyed through listening and reading, watching and writing. Prerequisite: Junior standing.

3 credits Designed to provide knowledge of psychology, theory and practice of music education in the elementary schools. Emphasis is placed upon the nature, organization and maintenance of the elementary music program. Prerequisite: Major in music.

3 credits Designed to provide knowledge of the psychology, theory and practice of instrumental music education in grades 5-12. Emphasis is placed upon the selection of repertoire, rehearsal technique, and program administration. Prerequisites: MUS 200 Conducting and a major in music education.
