On-the-job learning with a cooperating employer sponsored by a History faculty member. Students apply knowledge and skills developed during their coursework in a work environment. A minimum of 40 clock hours of supervised work is required for each hour of credit. Prerequisites: History major, junior standing, GPA of 2.5 and permission of department chair.

1.00 - 3.00 Credits
A directed reading program that allows the student to investigate a field of history approved by the instructor. Areas in which the student may read are: (a) American history, (b) European history, (c) Non-Western history, (d) the philosophy and theory of history. Prerequisite: Junior standing. A maximum of 6 hours in this course may be applied toward a History major.

All students and faculty read and discuss important texts representing a wide range of disciplines and literary genres. The readings and class discussions enhance students' and faculty's understanding and appreciation of theliberal arts and promote a sense of community.

2 credits This course is an introduction to the research process and prepares students to succeed at Dana, at work, or in graduate school. Students will be able to locate and evaluate information from print and non-print resources. Students will learn to access, evaluate, and use reference sources, online catalogs, periodical databases, government documents, archival materials, and the Internet to find information.

This is a cross listing to be used by Morton Scholars when registering for (1) approved international or domestic travel; or (2) an approved off-campus independent study in cultural diversity done in cooperation with a Dana College faculty member. Prerequisite: Morton Scholar in good standing. Additional information: Grading: Letter grade. Assessment: Objectives, outcomes and assessment criteria will be developed by the student in consultation with a Dana College faculty member and approved by the Honors Council.

Supervised voluntary community service in which a student, through an agency, organization, or institution, assists others in meeting the basic needs of life. 1 credit may be awarded for 40 hours (0.5 for 20 hours) of community service. See Dana College Honors Program Handbook for further details. Prerequisite: Morton Scholar in good standing. 3 credits An opportunity to integrate learning from major area(s) of study with the broader background of the general education program. The seminar challenges participants to explore their conceptual framework of philosophies of life which, in turn, will form the basis for identifying global problems and articulating strategies for confronting them.

Honors students design a research project, gather and analyze data, and present the project in a public setting during the final semester of their senior year. The three-credit research project can be initiated as early as the sophomore year with students registering for one credit each year. All projects must be initiated by the beginning of the senior year. Prerequisite: Morton Scholar in good standing. Additional information: Grading: Letter grade. Assessment: Criteria for grading will be defined by the faculty advisor in consultation with the student and a letter grade assigned by the faculty advisor upon the student's completion of the thesis/project.
