This course provides an in-depth look at, and the interrelationship of: health, safety and nutrition in the early childhood setting. It includes indoor and outdoor safety, reducing the spread of infection, understanding nutritional challenges, child abuse, inclusion of all children, and many other related topics. College credit is available to participants who apply to HACC, complete the program in full and successfully complete the assessment process.

This course covers content aligned with the Pennsylvania Early Childhood Education (ECE) Core Knowledge Competencies (CKC). The CKC are content areas that help define the expectations for professionals working in early childhood education and school-age settings. These competencies are linked to the PA early learning standards and specify the scope of abilities and knowledge that guide those who work with children in Pennsylvania. The CKC is a comprehensive resource that identifies the skills and dispositions that adults who work with children need to know, understand and be able to implement.

Provides an in depth look at caring for infants and toddlers. This course covers methods for their care and education within the context of diverse family structure and cultures and in preparing stimulating environments to meet individual goals. Students will examine the developmental characteristics and variations in temperament, ability and rates of maturation with an emphasis on responsive caregiver skills. In addition, a focus on health and safety topics related to infants and toddlers. College credit is available to students who apply to HACC, complete the program in full and successfully complete the assessment process.

Designed for teachers who are working in early childhood settings. Students are able to discover ways in which they can promote positive social-emotional development in children and in how they can facilitate supportive relationships with and between children and their families. Additionally, students are taught how to identify the root causes of children's behavior in order to guide positive behavior outcomes. Students are presented with a variety of evidence-based practices to implement immediately as they are led to analyze and modify their approach to affect positive change in the classroom.

Provides early childhood educators with practical solutions to behavioral challenges in the classroom. This course examines the root causes of behavioral issues in order to provide what children need to feel safe and secure in their environment. Societal constructs, parenting styles, and adverse events that affect child development and behavior are also presented.

Introduces the development and expression of creativity within the early childhood classroom through the integration of visual art, music, movement, drama, and play. Students plan, implement, and assess creative activities through the process of investigation, exploration, and participation. Adult Basic Education (ABE) Language Arts classes are for individuals who need to strengthen their reading and writing skills before enrolling in Adult Secondary Education (ASE) classes in preparation for the GED Language Arts exam. Students will concentrate on the organization of sentences within paragraphs, practice reading comprehension utilizing fiction and nonfiction texts, study grammar usage, mechanics, and language skills in accordance with Standard English conventions, and will develop writing techniques to successfully complete the essay portion of the GED Language Arts exam.

Adult Basic Education (ABE) Math classes are for individuals who need to strengthen their basic math skills before enrolling in Adult Secondary Education (ASE) classes in preparation for the GED Math exam. Students will concentrate on whole numbers, decimals, fractions, integers, ratios and percent, and interpreting data.

Adult Secondary Education (ASE) Language Arts classes are for individuals who need to strengthen their reading and writing skills in preparation for the GED Language Arts exam. Students will interpret fiction, nonfiction, and informational texts, analyze the validity of arguments, strengthen sentences by improving organization, word choice, grammar and mechanics, and interpret texts with opposing arguments and/or related graphic information.

Adult Secondary Education (ASE) Math classes are for individuals who need to strengthen their math skills in preparation for the GED Math exam. Students will review operations with decimals, fractions, integers, ratios, and percent, and then concentrate on linear equations, polynomials and rational expressions, linear equations in the coordinate plane, geometry, measurement, measurement, and data analysis.
