This course was created for the medical professional who may find themselves caring for a patient or team member during a rescue incident. This course will help bridge the gap between providing advanced medical care and functioning at an operations level during a technical rescue incident. This course will strictly adhere to the NFPA 1006/1670 Standard for Technical Rescue Personnel Professional Qualifications. Students will engage in medical care while receiving practical education on how a rescue may be performed. This course is NOT designed to yield an advanced technical rescuer. Instead, it is designed to enable a medical practitioner to work concomitantly with rescue teams to provide the care needed for entrapped victims. Current pre-hospital certification and Awareness level rescue training is required prior to acceptance into the class.

Some of the activities to include are CPR and First Aid, Pet First Aid, Fire Extinguisher Usage, Basic Fire Prevention, Evacuation, Household Safety, K9 demo, situational awareness etc. The Citizens Public Safety Academy meets once a week for 8 weeks with 4 hours per session. Every emergency response employer in the United States is required by law to have at least one Exposure Control Officer (ECO) and it is to have one per shift to manage exposure issues for the department. Understanding this role and the many aspects of this job is important to assist with risk management and department member advocacy. The role and responsibilities along with a job description are presented along with step by step program formulation to enable the course participant to return to his/her workplace and set up a working program. A well trained designated officer will be an effective advocate for both the members of the department as well as the adminstration.
