This entry level course is designed to introduce new firefighters to fire ground operation including fire behavior, building construction-structural collapse, fire hose water supply, communications, ropes and knots, Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA). This is the second of five levels (courses) in the curriculum. This course incudes lecture, interactive discussion and practical skills and a written evaluation. Minimum age of 14 years old at start of course.

This entry level course is designed to introduce new firefighters to fire ground operation including Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), fire behavior, building construction, fire extinguishers forcible entry, ladders, and fire streams/hose line advancement. This is the third of five levels (courses) in the curriculum. This course includes lecture, interactive discussion and practical skills and a written evaluation. NIMS 700 and ICS 100 are required. Minimum age of 14 years old at start of course.

The primary target audiences for this course are the First Responders (fire, rescue, emergency medical, police etc.) who will witness or discover a hazardous substance/materials release. Students will be training to initiate an emergency response sequence by notifying the proper authorities of the release. They shall have sufficient training or have had sufficient experience to objectively demonstrate competency to understand what hazardous substances are, the risks, potential outcomes, the ability to recognize and identify their presence, their role including site security, safe scene management and how to use the U.S. Department of Transportation (US DOT) Emergency Response Guidebook during a hazardous materials/WMD emergency. Minimum age is 14 years old.

This entry level course is designed to introduce new firefighters to interior fire ground operations including Self Contained Breathing apparatus (SCBA), Search and Rescue Procedures, Firefighter Survival, Ventilation, Utility and Loss Control, Origin and Cause, and Fire Control (Suppression). This is the fourth of five levels (courses) in the curriculum. Must be 18 years of age at the start of the course.

This course will provide training for first responders that respond to releases or potential releases of hazardous substances as part of the initial response for the purpose of protecting nearby persons, property and the environment. Personnel are trained to respond in a defensive fashion to contain the release from a safe distance, to keep it from spreading and prevent exposures. They must understand basic hazard and risk assessment, how to select and use proper personnel protective equipment, basic hazardous materials terms, basic control, containment and/or confinement operations within the capabilities of the resources and PPE available, basic decontamination procedures and termination procedures. Minimum age: 16 years old at start of course.

Covers rescue situations that involve confined spaces. The course topics include definitions, regulations, identification, needs, psychology and techniques. Practical application of rescue techniques are practiced in real confined spaces. This course requires that students have: note taking materials; a hard hat or helmet with chin strap; work shoes or boots (steel-toe preferred); eye protection; positive pressure Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA); knee pads, if possible; work clothes including coveralls or items that can be soiled; a 15-20-foot piece of rope for knot tying exercise; two pairs of gloves (one clean pair) for knot tying and one pair that may be heavily soiled. Persons attending this 16-hour training should have experience, expertise or training in subjects, such as respiratory protection equipment, including SCBA, and/or rope rescue or rigging techniques are preferred prerequisites. Prerequisites: Must be a minimum age of 18 years old. Respiratory Protection I (REPA) and Rope/High Angle Rescue II (RORA) are preferred prerequisites.

This course will provide the participant with the information needed to identify confined spaces and assess the hazards associated with confined spaces in order to avoid serious injury or death. Information will be provided and alarm procedures discussed for handling confined space incidents as a first responder. This class does not involve, nor does it certify, persons to make confined space entries. This program is ideal for all rescue personnel.

Provides the student with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform rescues at structural collapse scenes due to natural disasters or terrorist incidents in accordance with the FEMA Structural Collapse Rescue Technician curriculum for Urban Search and Rescue (US&R) operations. This course is 90 hours of face to face (Instructor led) training, divided into four major areas: Constructing Emergency Shoring (Interior and Exterior), Lifting and Moving Techniques, Breaching and Breaking, NFPA 1006 Structural Collapse Technician Pro Board/ IFSAC Certification Levels I and II. Every effort is made to ensure consistent terminology and training within the discipline of urban search and rescue (US&R), is conducted. This training matches the DHS/FEMA National US&R Response System curriculum. This course concludes with the written and skills testing for the NFPA 1006 Structural Collapse Technician Pro Board/IFSAC Certification Levels I and II via the Pennsylvania State Fire Academy's professional certification guidelines. Prerequisites: Firefighter I Certification, or equivalent; current Hazardous Materials Operations or Technician training or certification (NFPA 472); current CPR training (Infant, Child and Adult); current EMS certification Emergency Responder, First Responder, EMT or EMT-Paramedic); training or certification in accordance with NFPA 1006 ??? Chapter 5: Rescue Technician General Requirements/ Core Competencies; Operations level training, in accordance with NFPA 1670, in the following areas: Vehicle/Machinery rescue; confined space rescue; rope rescue; and trench/ excavation rescue.

The US&R Planning Team Manager course is designed to provide jurisdictions with the same training received by the FEMA US&R Planning Team Training Course. First responders completing the course will be prepared to work as part of an urban search and rescue task force to respond to natural, man-made disasters and acts of terrorism requiring technical rescue operations. This course is designed to provide the first responder with the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties as a member of the FEMA US&R Planning Team on a FEMA US&R Task Force when combined with adequate documented practical experience.

The primary purpose of this course is to train US&R Task Force Leaders in all aspects necessary for their task force to be prepared to deploy to an incident in a timely, competent and effective manner following the policies and procedures of the National US&R System. Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to successfully perform the position of Task Force Leader on a US&R team.
