Introduces students to the basic concepts of plant biology and a survey of major groups of plants and plant-like organisms. This course expands on many of the biological concepts introduced in BIOL 101 - General Biology I, as it includes plant physiology, comparative anatomy, and plant classification. Plant reproduction and other major botanical concepts are emphasized through the study of local flora, laboratory exercises, and lectures. A course fee is required. Prerequisite: BIOL 101 with a grade of C or higher.

Provides a foundation in classical and molecular genetics. This course allows students to gain an understanding of genetic material and explore topics within the field genetics including non-Mendelian inheritance, linkage, gene interactions and regulation, molecular genetics, and mutations. A course fee is required. Prerequisite: BIOL 101 and 102 with grades of C or higher, or the equivalent.

Provides students with a comprehensive study of the structure and function of microorganisms. This course presents the control of microorganisms, immunity, and microbes in the news, as well as discusses selected infectious diseases. Procedures and techniques used in the study of microorganisms are emphasized through the laboratory activities. A course fee is required. Prerequisite: High school biology and chemistry, or HACC equivalents. (SCI/LAB)

Introduces students to the study and general principles of ecology - specifically those pertaining to the tropical ecology of island ecosystems - using the scientific method. Course topics emphasize terrestrial and marine ecology of island ecosystems, biodiversity, food webs, natural history, conservation biology, ecotourism, and field research techniques. Students travel to the Bahamas and participate in hands-on field study. Their studies are supplemented through online coursework designed to educate them further on both ecological theory and the island ecosystems visited. This course is designed for Biology majors, but is open to all students of all majors. A course fee is required. Prerequisite: ENGL 101 with a grade of C or higher; or permission of the Instructor.

This course presents self-awareness, self-management, social awareness and relationship management through interactive activities that include lecture and discussions centering on workplace realities and relationship-building measures This course is conducted through remote instruction, using the Zoom platform for approximately 60 minutes.

Provides Human Resource professionals, small business owners and other individuals who may engage in pre-employment screenings with the most effective types of background checks, the policies, procedures and practices required to ensure that these checks meet state and federal laws. This course addresses the importance of data safety and security when discussing the following types of checks: criminal background, credit, neighborhood, reference, internet/social networking and past employment/military. This course is presented remotely via the Zoom platform with breaks and interactive sessions included.

Covers the fundamentals necessary to remain interconnected in a home-office setting using technology while ensuring that personal and work-related transactions remain data safe and secure. This course addresses the unique challenges working from home can present and teaches students how to identify security issues within their home office, remediate those issues and be proactive to ensure computers and wireless networks are secure. Other course topics discuss software and tools to help troubleshoot security problems including the five-step ??one-click?? process to ensure continuity of operations and device management. Students also participate in a simulated discussion centered around real-word scenario of a technology breach, Denial of Service (DoS) attacks, Cybersecurity and the importance of free vs. fee-based antivirus and malware applications. Industry-expert run course is conducted in remote or blended formats. This requirement to create and maintain a workspace in the home poses unique challenges and we all need to be vigilant in protecting not only work-related materials and data, but also personal records, financial information, online presence, and hardware capabilities.

Assists individuals in recognizing the importance change management skills can provide in both personal and professional areas. This course helps participants improve their change management skillset by assessing attitudes, demonstrating effective use of resources and supporting/managing others during change. This course is conducted via Zoom with breaks and interactive sessions included.
