This event is designed for individuals who wish to be tested for Pipe Welding Qualification. The test follows the requirements of AWS D1.1 Welding Procedure or ASME Section IX Welding Procedure. An approved HACC Test Welding Proctor will ensure the proper testing procedure is followed. The welding specimen will be submitted to a third party Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to be evaluated. HACC WFT will respond to the students with the results of their test.

This class will prepare welders for the taking their Welding Qualification or Certification test. American Welding Society standards will be reviewed and practiced. Coaching and hands on practice will help develop the necessary skills to prepare for the testing process. Basic supplies are included in the tuition, however a welding helmet, welding coat, welding gloves, cutting goggles and safety glasses are required. Completion of this course does not guarantee a student will successfully pass a welding test performed at HACC or an external provider.
  • 0.40 Credits

This class will offer students to test and either qualify to or certify to the American Welding Society (AWS) D.1.1 Standard in either a standard Welding Procedure in MIG STICK or PIPE or to a Welding Procedure provided by the student or the student's organization. This class is a 4 hour testing session and students will be able to complete up to a maximum of 4 different qualifications or certification welds during the test period . This test class does not guarantee a student will be successful in passing the test.

Our best comprehensive class for the beginning welder. This course covers a variety of welding types and techniques. Technical information and lots of hands-on experience in electric arc welding, cutting, brazing, oxygen-acetylene, acetylene (MIG) welding , metal identification, plasma cutting and heliarc (TIG) welding. Students are required to provide their own essential welding safety gear: protective clothing, welding hood, safety glasses and gloves. The textbook is recommended but not required.

Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) is more commonly referred to as MIG welding. This course consists of approximately 20 hours in the classroom learning GMAW theory with the balance of time involving hands-on GMAW skill practice in the welding lab. The focus will be on learning and practicing proper welding techniques for flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead welding positions. Essential welding gear is included and participants will have the opportunity to test to the AWS D1.1 qualification.
  • 12.00 Credits

Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) is more commonly referred to as STICK welding. This course consists of approximately 20 hours in the classroom learning SMAW theory with the balance of time developing hands-on SMAW skill with practice in the welding lab. The focus will be on learning and practicing proper welding techniques for flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead welding positions. Essential welding gear is included and participants will have the opportunity to test to the AWS D1.1 qualification.

This course focuses on the use of ultrasonic inspection equipment to evaluate weld joints for defects such as: porosity, tie-in, lack of penetration, and other common flaws/defects. The course includes a basic introduction to the theory and principles of ultrasound. Hands-on operation of the equipment and identification of various defects in weld joints is integrated into the theory behind this technology.

Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Level II is an extension of UT Level I and delves into the theory and principles to a much greater depth. After a review of the basic UT Level I subjects, variables such as beam profile, dead, near and far zones, acoustic impedance, absorption and scattering are presented. Other subjects essential for performing angle beam inspection of welds, including mode conversion, refraction, and attenuation are Calibration of the UT instruments is demonstrated, as well as the examination of several test specimens. Immersion and through transmission are discussed along with a variety of other techniques. The evaluation and interpretation of test results along with the need for complete and accurate test reporting are presented. This is essential course for those practitioners who will be pursuing a career in Ultrasonic Testing and for those striving for certification a Level II.

The Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Level I course includes a basic introductin to the theory and principles of ultrasound, including frequency, velocity, and wavelength. It addresses the variables related to the propagation, reflection, and attention of sound as well as the responses from discontinuities. The participant will learn to understand the display and be able to calibrate the UT instrument and identify the location of reflectors in various test specimens. UT equipment and transducers are demonstrated. UT is also used for precise thickness measurements and the basic procedure for this is also covered. A number of techniques and applications will also be presented including discussions on the data required for precise reporting. This course is essential for those desiring to enter and specialize in UT. It is also beneficial for those who will not be practitioner but who want to have a general understanding of the basic principles of Ultrasonic Testing.
