Introduces students to the Modern Sporting Rifle with a focus on the AR15 platform. This course discusses the four basic safety rules for handling firearms, disassembly cleaning and reassembly a Modern Sporting Rifle. In addition, students are taught how to safely and properly load and unload the weapon, identify malfunctions and perform immediate actions to overcome those malfunctions. The range portion of this course allows students to be taught how to zero the sights on the rifle while stressing and developing basic marksmanship skills. Students must have proper hearing and eye protection (can be provided) and a baseball-style hat. Students who bring their own rifle and ammunition must possess an AR15 based rifle, with 40 rounds of commercially manufactured ammunition NO RELOADED ammunition is permitted and a basic cleaning kit for their rifle. NOTE: Instructors make a safety examination of the student???s rifle (and other items), and have the sole discretion to deny any of its use. HACC rifle & ammunition rental: Students may be provided of our .223 range rifles and sufficient ammunition to complete the course successfully (up to 40 rounds) A basic cleaning kit is also provided for student use. HACC Ammunition Rental: Students may be provided with sufficient .223 caliber ammunition to complete the course successfully (up to 40 rounds)

Teaches students basic firearms safety, how to load and unload a pistol or revolver, properly clear the weapon, different types of handguns, different types of ammunition and how they operate. Students are taught the seven fundamentals of shooting culminating with live fire on our state of the art indoor range. This course is specifically designed for the female shooter and is taught by a female certified firearms and defensive tactics instructor. ALL STUDENTS need proper hearing and eye protection (can be provided to the student), and a baseball style hat (student must bring their own). Prerequisite: must be at least 21-years old to enroll in this training. Students who bring their own handgun and ammunition must possess a handgun less than .50 cal AND bring 50 rounds of commercially manufactured ammunition??NO RELOADED ammunition allowed, and a basic cleaning kit for their handgun. NOTE: Instructors make a safety examination of the student???s handgun (and other items), and have the sole discretion to deny any of its use. HACC handgun & ammunition rental: Students may be provided one of our 9 mm Glock 17 Gen 5 ??? range pistols and sufficient ammunition to complete the course successfully (up to 50 rounds). A basic cleaning kit will be provided for use. HACC ammunition rental: Students may be provided with sufficient ammunition to complete the course successfully (up to 50 rounds). The ammunition available is: 38 spl, 9 mm, .380 acp, .40 cal and .45 acp. MUST BE AT LEAST 21 YEARS OLD TO REGISTER

Provides police officers with skills necessary to recognize and identify factors of a crisis event. The lessons taught in this course assist a police officer who responds to a call for service to help initiate safe resolution and de-escalation of aggressive actions. The police officer is also taught communication methods and techniques which can be effective in bringing a crisis event to a safe conclusion through voluntary compliance.

Explores the effects of trauma experienced by police officers in the line duty, with a focus on identifying successful coping strategies that can be incorporated into a personalized wellness plan and utilizing available resources. The course will take a close look at various obstacles impacting officers??? ability and willingness to seek help when it is needed. Themes throughout the course will be the responsibility officers have to themselves, as well as to notice when their fellow officers are exhibiting signs of trauma and the appropriate intervention strategies they can use to help.

An overview of investigations, including the concept of investigative sufficiency, evidence collection, report writing, and courtroom testimony, as well as an in-depth look at burglary and death investigations. This course is required Mandatory In-Service Training (MIST) for police officers by the Municipal Police Officer Education Training Commission (MPOETC).

Teaches students the pathway to violence and behaviors associated with active shooters, Students are taught the difference between running and denying and fighting and defending. Focus is on how to react when law enforcement arrives on scene and what best practices to follow when faced with an active shooter. This course is designed to help armed and unarmed security personnel in understanding how to respond to an active shooter.

Provides students with an entry-exam for the HACC's Municipal Police Academy. This two-hour training consists of physical fitness testing. The testing standards are set by the Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission (MPOETC). Students must select a testing site and meet the minimum requirements outlined for various age groups to advance in the admission process.

Helps students to develop proper handgun draw retention techniques, and threat separation skills when they are dealing with a use of deadly force situation. Students are able to demonstrate proficiency when firing from the weapon retention position and fire while separating themselves from a threat in low light situations. Students are instructed on and demonstrate proficiency with multiple flashlight hold techniques while firing a handgun in low light situations. This course requires students to have the following equipment: Duty Handgun with minimum of two magazines. (It is strongly encouraged that the handgun has functioning night sights.); duty belt with appropriate holster and magazine pouches; 200 rounds of factory ammunition for duty handguns; working duty flashlight with extra batteries; and eye and hearing protection. Prerequisite: Student must show possession of a current ACT 235 certification before being enrolled in the course.

Introduces the student to the fundamental knowledge, skills, and behaviors needed to function effectively in a medical office. This course focus is on areas such as, professionalism, communication skills, health care law and ethics, cultural diversity, safety in the workplace, and patient assessment skills. Enrollment is restricted to students in the Medical Assisting Certificate program. Corequisite: BIOL 111 or 121 with a grade of C or higher.
