This course is a survey of the history of humankind and focuses on governmental, economic, social, religious, intellectual and esthetic activities from the earliest historical period until the middle of the 17th century. The survey includes earliest civilizations in Africa, the Orient and the West as well as development around the world during the ancient times, the Middle Ages and the early modern period. Emphasis is given to early civilizations in the Middle East, India, China and Europe. In Europe, the survey extends beyond the Middle Ages to cover the Age of Exploration, the Renaissance and the Reformation. 3 hours lecture

This course is a survey of African-American history beginning with the study of several well-developed West African Empire-States through the experience of present day African- Americans. Special attention is given to the African-American experience in the political, economic, religious, cultural and intellectural contributions toward the development of American civilization. 3 hours lecture

This course is a survey of U.S. history from the period of discovery and exploration through the Civil War. Students cover topics including colonial civilization, the American Revolution, the growth of democratic principles, the development of nationalism and the growth of sectionalism involving the dispute over slavery and the onset of the American Civil War. The significance of this early period of American history is related to current issues. 3 hours lecture

A continuation of HIS 2213, this course is a survey of U.S. history from 1865 to the present. Topics include Reconstruction, the expanding economic system and its impact on both domestic and foreign affairs of the United States, the emergence of the U.S. as a world power and the problems and conflicts world power has created both in terms of world wars and the Cold War. Students also study domestic politics as the federal government expanded its role in the domestic life of the nation since the Great Depression. 3 hours lecture

This course is an introduction to health record systems including an overview of the health care environment; admissions procedures; record content, analysis, and use; retention requirements; and numbering and filing systems. Prerequisite: Admission to HIT program. 3 hours lecture, 2 hours lab.

This course is a study of medical language relating to the various body systems including diseases, procedures, clinical specialties, and abbreviations.
