Study of physical education curricula in the school setting, corporate health promotion, and programming in the community environment. Planning and administering physical education programs, intramurals and extramurals in regard to students' needs. Does not meet the health and fitness liberal arts core requirement. The study of human motor skill acquisition. Theories and applications related to skill acquisition, motor learning and control are examined with reference to the learner, the learning environment and individual differences. Does not meet the health and fitness liberal arts core requirement. Offered winter semester every year.

4.00 Credits
An overview of the principles of aerobic conditioning, strength and flexibility conditioning, group exercise instructor techniques, and strength and flexibility personal training techniques. In addition, fitness training activities and techniques for special populations including children, women, and older adults will be studied. Special exercise programming for those with health concerns such as diabetes, asthma, coronary heart disease, and/or obesity will also be studied. General fitness facility management leadership issues will be addressed including, but not limited to, staffing, program development, facility management, and liability issues. Offered fall semester every year. Prerequisites: BIOL 2510, 2520. Prerequisites with concurrency: EXSS 3350, 3450.

A study of the principles and procedures involved in the organization, management and implementation of women's sports programs. Special consideration to psychological aspects of motivation and ethics, including the interpersonal relationships involved with coaching. Does not meet the health and fitness liberal arts core requirement. Offered fall semester every other year.

The coaching practicum provides you with the opportunity to work in an observation participation setting under a qualified coach. The purpose is to provide supervision from a qualified coach in a particular area of interest. Does not meet the health and fitness liberal arts core requirement. Offered every semester. Prerequisite: EXSS 3700, instructor permission.

An overview of problems (recognition, principles and responsibilities) related to athletic injuries to both upper and lower body. Emphasis on prevention, immediate care and rehabilitation. Does not meet the health and fitness liberal arts core requirement. Offered fall semester every year. Prerequisite: BIOL 2510.

This course is designed to give you experience in the equipment and methodologies used in the field of biomechanics and kinesiology. Topic areas include the use of video data collection and reduction methods, force platform, electromyography, gait studies, anthropometric studies and other research in the field. Does not meet the health and fitness liberal arts core requirement. Offered winter semester every year. Prerequisite: EXSS 3350.

Structured out-of-class learning experience that takes place on or off campus and includes a substantial work component. An internship involves you in a particular profession in an exploratory way to test career interests and potential. To initiate an internship experience, you must meet with the internship coordinator in the Career Development Office. Prerequisites: Faculty sponsorship and approval by department chair.
