Students learn contemporary psychiatric and mental health nursing theories related to psychiatric disorders. Students explore various treatment modalities and apply the nursing process when contributing to the plan of care for the client with unmet psychosocial needs. Prerequisites: Successful completion of the first and second semesters of the Practical Nursing Program. Co-requisites: NRST 2615 and NRST 2755. (2 hrs lec)

3.00 Credits
This course prepares students to help, deal with, and cope when emergency care is needed. It is an in-depth look at how and what you need to do in case of an emergency; whether it is medical or trauma. Students will learn how to assist and care for a patient before medical assistance is available. Current American Heart Association materials are used for CPR and AED. On successful completion, students will receive an American Heart Association CPR card and will be eligible to apply to the Wyoming Office of Emergency Medical Services for the Emergency Medical Responders card, following all state guidelines and requirements. Students may not receive credit in both NRST 1660 and HLED 1660. (3 hrs lec, 2 hrs lab)

Students learn the concepts and skills necessary for safe and accurate drug dosage calculations. Students learn to utilize the nursing process necessary for safe medication administration. Students begin to learn about how drug therapy is used to effectively treat patients so that health can be maintained and/or improved. Prerequisites: ENGL 1010, ZOO 2010, and successful admission to the Practical Nursing Program. Co-requisites: NRST 1000 and NRST 1705. (1 hr lec, 2 hr lab)

Students learn the theoretical framework for care of the adult client with unmet needs related to chronic illness. The nursing process is used in the planning of care. The focus is on the physiological, psychosocial, spiritual, developmental, and cultural needs of the client. Students continually improve their ability to think critically, communicate effectively, and act collaboratively. Prerequisite: Successful completion of the first semester of the Nursing Program. Corequisites: NRST 1630 and NRST 1720.(2.5 lec, 1 hr lab)

Students learn to use an ever expanding body of knowledge and the nursing process to demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving through clinical learning experiences. Students learn to function in the roles of the Practical Nurse, provider of care, manager of care, and member within the discipline to coordinate and contribute to an established plan of care for individuals,families, and groups across the life span. Prerequisites: ENGL 1010, ZOO 2010, and successful admission to the Practical Nursing Program. Co-requisites: NRST 1000 and NRST 1688. (145 hrs clinical)

Through clinical learning experiences, students learn to function in the roles of the Associate Degree Nurse, provider of care, manager of care, and member within the discipline. Students use critical thinking as they apply the systematic stages of the nursing process to plan and provide safe, competent, and individualized care to treat client response to actual, unmet needs and manage the care of one or two client(s) who have well-defined health problems. Prerequisite: ENGL 1010, PSYC 1000, ZOO 2010 and successful admission to the Nursing Program. Corequisites: NRST 1540, NRST 1580, and NRST 2820. (6 hrs clinical)

Through clinical learning experiences students learn to apply theory and skills practiced in the laboratory setting to direct client care in the client care setting. Students increase their ability to use critical thinking and assessment skills as they use the nursing process to plan and implement care for their assigned clients. The focus is on the unmet physiological, psychosocial, spiritual, developmental, and cultural needs of clients experiencing alterations of mental health or a chronic disease process. Prerequisite: Successful completion of the first semester of the Nursing Program. Corequisites: NRST 1630 and NRST 1700. (12 hrs clinical)

Students learn to use an ever expanding body of knowledge and the nursing process to demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving to provide basic care for clients with chronic conditions through a variety of clinical learning experiences. The Practical Nursing student coordinates and contributes to an established plan of care to meet the chronic illness human needs for diverse client populations in a variety of health care delivery settings. Prerequisite: Successful completion of the first semester of the Practical Nursing Program. Co-requisites: NRST 2605 and NRST 1745. (145 hrs clinical)

The nursing process is utilized in the planning of client care. Focus is on the physiological, spiritual, developmental, and cultural needs of the client. Students continue to increase in their ability to function in the roles of provider and manager of care as a member within the discipline as they align with the PN scope of practice. Prerequisite: Successful completion of the first semester of the Practical Nursing Program. Co-requisites: NRST 1735 and 2605. (3.5 hrs lec, 1 hr lab)

Students learn the effects of drug therapy on each body system. Students learn the connection between drug therapy and nursing theory. Students learn how to use drug therapy to provide better care, educate patients, and improve outcomes. (2 hrs lec)
