Students are introduced to training methods used by area professional trainers. The students demonstrate proficiency in western and English pleasure, reining, trail, and halter. Other topics covered include nutrition, breeding, and health care. Prerequisite: Students must provide their own horses for this course.

Students demonstrate the ability to apply theoretical and practical knowledge gained in the classroom through work experience in an equine-related industry in a supervised environment. Students participate in any required seminars and produce documents describing and evaluating the internship experience. Prerequistes: Completion of EQST 1516, EQST 1550, and EQST 1900.

Students articulate skills learned throughout college in application of their portfolio to both job applications and general education practices. Students create a post-graduation plan and apply financial planning and transfer or career-readiness tasks in a way that supports their personal goals.

Students explore equine health management principles and practices, including a practical examination of equine nutrition, diseases, and vaccines. Students learn to identify lameness and differentiate between various types of lameness. Students also discuss general safety and first aid techniques. Prerequisite: Completion of EQST 2516.

A continuation of EQST 1515 with emphasis on the internal anatomy and physiology of the horse. Students acquire knowledge of the muscular system, nervous system, respiratory system, cardiovascular system, digestive system, urinary system, integumentary system, genetics, and parasitology. Prerequisite: Completion of EQST 1515 or permission of instructor.

This course is a study of the anatomy and physiology of the stallion and mare. Students will associate various hormones with their functions. Breeding systems and methods, including cooled and frozen artificial insemination techniques, will also be explored. In addition, students will study proper mare management and foaling problems. Prerequisite: Completion of EQST 2500.

Students explore the elements of managing recognized horse shows from licensing through execution and evaluation. Students learn the basics of managing equine sporting events. Students examine topics that include safety and risk management, facilities management, marketing, conflict resolution, and show operations. At the culmination of this course, students participate in producing the annual Intercollegiate Horse Show Association show.

4.00 Credits
In this course, students start a young horse under saddle. Under the direction of the instructor students demonstrate round pen reasoning, correct longeing, sacking out, saddling, introducing a bit, and driving. The horse that is started under saddle will be trained for 30-45 days. A two to four year old horse is provided to each student to gently train and care for according to established training objectives within the equine training program. Evaluation of a horse's conformation and performance including terms used in horse judging, will also be covered throughout the duration of this class. Prerequisite: Completion of EQST 1685.

Students acquire knowledge about and develop skills in the training and riding of ranch horse versatility. Topics include reining,working cow, trail, and pleasure focusing on lead changes, turn-arounds, roll backs and running patterns. Course will follow rules of AQHA. Students must provide their own horse for course. Prerequisite: Instructor Consent.
