Students learn the fundamentals of fiber optic network cabling deployments used within telecommunications and internetworking environments. Students develop hands-on skills in the installation, termination, repair, and usage of fiber optic network cabling standards. Students will be eligible to sit for an industry certification exam at the conclusion of this course.

Students acquire knowledge and skills about programming techniques in the current version of Microsoft Visual Basic, an event-driven programming language. Topics include designing Windows applications using forms and controls and accessing databases and files. Prerequisite: Completion of COSC 1010 or equivalent experience.

Students learn the fundamentals of scripting logic and automation of administrative actions such as user creation, drive mapping, data retrieval, etc. Students work with command line and Powershell scripting tools, and explore basic Python programmatic structure.

This course introduces students to the Linux/UNIX operating system using a dedicated server as host. Students acquire basic knowledge of, and skills in, the use of a multi-user, multitasking operating system. Topics include the command structure, user accounts, file systems, directories, text editors and mail systems. Students utilize Linux commands to accomplish input/output, file manipulation, standards programming structures, scripting, and system administration tasks. Prerequisite: Completion of COSC 1010.

Students acquire knowledge and skills necessary to create computer programs for use on the Web. Topics include popular scripting languages, client and server side scripting, database access, XML, and other current Web programming concepts. Prerequisites: Completion of any programming course and INET 1581 or equivalent experience.

This course is designed to prepare the student with a foundation in data governance and the ethical utilization of that data. Students explore concepts in data asset identification, data management, data storage, data security, and the development of data governance strategies. Students also examine the ethical implications of big data and its implementations.

This course prepares students to create and share presentations in face-to-face and online environments using popular presentation software applications. Students develop skills in developing cohesive, well-developed presentations, creating slides, utilizing image, video, and audio files effectively and professionally; importing graphs and tables into presentations; and sharing presentations for editing and presentation via online services.

Students develop core skills in the management and support of the VMWare Vsphere Hypervisor environment. Students learn to deploy servers and hardware to support the virtualization platform, as well as essential support and systems management skills. Students will be eligible to sit for an industry certification exam at the conclusion of this course.
