This course deals with the federal taxation of gratuitous property transfers during life and at death and with techniques for structuring transactions so as to minimize such taxation. The emphasis will be on gift and estate taxes, but we will also study the income taxation of trusts and estates, the generation-skipping transfer tax, and the special rules applicable to employee pension plans.
