Prereq. A 310 - The student studies contemporary art historical theory and artmaking to increase her understanding of the current context for artmaking. She explores a broad variety of philosophical stances, movements, and practices from 1970 to the present. Understanding of contemporary art is linked to the student's developing awareness of self as artmaker in studio art classes.

Prereq. A 352 - The student develops a refined understanding of painting materials and practices employed in the production of contemporary painting. She analyzes and critiques her own working procedures and ideas. In addition, she examines, researches, and considers current and historical artworks that reflect her personal painting goals.

Prereq. A 356 - The student expands upon and combines printmaking techniques of monoprint and relief with the intaglio process (etching, digital printing, collography, artist's book) in order to achieve technically complex aesthetic expressions.

Prereq. A/CIT 359 - The student explores experimental-expressive learning projects in individualized aesthetic contexts through motion media and video/film.

Integrated Communication Level 3 - The student is introduced to the fundamentals of blackand- white photography, including lighting, composition, printmaking, retouching, and mounting photos for display. She works extensively in the darkroom and prepares a portfolio of her best work that reflects theories of image design. Course fees apply.
