Students apply what they have learned about lesson design and evaluation, discipline, diversity, learning styles, teaching strategies, adaptations for special populations, classroom management, and motivation. Students will have teaching experiences in at least two levels from EC-6th. See the director to determine which course(s) to take. A total of 6 credit hours is required. A weekly afternoon seminar is required. Student teaching 12 weeks. Class 3,6. (Spring)

Instruction focuses on human diversity, needs of diverse populations (handicapped, gifted, ESL, disadvantages), the planning process for outcome-oriented learning experiences, higher-level thinking, curriculum adaptation for students from special populations, teaching for three domains (cognitive, affective, and psychomotor), environmental factors affecting achievement, self-esteem, informal and formal assessment, and principles of test development. Class 3. (Fall)

Students will design and implement instructional models for the middle school classroom. Diverse instructional techniques, such as cooperative learning, team teaching, technology integration, and experiential learning, which address diverse learning styles and developmentally appropriate practices for students in grades 4-8 will be emphasized. Class 3.

This course will provide review the principles of behavior management for classroom and community use with students with disabiliites. An examination will be made of the etiology of these disorders, theoretical approaches, and educational placement decisions. In addition, the course will provide a wide range of the most current research-based information about curriculum and instruction for teaching youngsters with mild to moderate learning and behavior problems. Class 3. Prerequisite: The student must currently be enrolled in or have successfully completed a Teacher Education program.

Students apply principles of planning, instruction, evaluation, management, and discipline; selecting appropriate teaching and learning strategies; developing a variety of appropriate lesson plans and assessments; demonstrating effective teaching practices with diverse populations; using effective discipline management techniques; managing students and classrooms; promoting personal professional growth; and working cooperatively with other professionals in the 4th - 8th grade classroom. A total of 6 credit hours is required. A weekly afternoon seminar is required. Student teaching 12 weeks. Class 3,6.

This course will provide in-depth descriptions of methods and strategies for teaching students with disabilities, managing professional roles, and collaborating with families, professionals and paraprofessionals. Class 3. Prerequisite: The student must currently be enrolled in or have successfully completed a Teacher Education program.

This course is designed to provide field experiences for a senior level student, enrolled as a preservice teacher during the semester prior to student teaching. The student will serve a minimum of five weeks in each student teaching placement classroom for a minimum of three hours per week to equal a total of thirty clock hours or more for this practicum experience. Satisfactory/unsatisfactory grade. Corequisites: EDUC 4333, EDUC 4223, or EDUC 4133. (Fall)

Students focus on learning theory, effective teaching practices, instructional strategies, and roles, including self-directed learning and collaboration, ways of encouraging independent thinkers and problem solvers, and selection and evaluations of textbooks and other instructional materials. Students will observe and participate in 8th - 12th grade classrooms in assigned schools. Class 3. (Fall)
