A one-to-four credit hour course to be utilized for seminars, special lectures in topics not offered in the catalog, and as a mechanism for developing new courses. Subjects offered under this number may include any area in the field of finance. This course may be taken more than one time when the topics are different. Class 1-4. This survey provides an overall perspective for understanding the Bible within its historical and cultural setting. The course will focus on the reading of significant portions of the Bible so that students may grasp the framework and themes of the Old and New Testaments as well as the relationship between the Testaments. Throughout the course students will also develop skills in interpreting and applying the Bible to contemporary situations. Class 3.

An introductory course highlighting the relationship between Biblical teaching and contemporary Christian living. This initial experience in the integration of faith and learning focuses on principles of Biblical interpretation and application. Students learn how to interpret core Biblical passages so as to give guidance for some of the tough issues Christians face today. Class 3.

An orientation in the world of the Old Testament which surveys the social, economic, and political history of the ancient Near East with emphasis on its relation to the Old Testament. Integrated with this material will be geography, archaeology, and the study of institutions as these issues enlighten an understanding of the Old Testament. Class 3. Prerequisites: BIBL 1033 and BIBL 1043. (Spring)

A study of the books of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. These books are treated as a foundation for the total Biblical revelation. The content of each book is studied with emphasis on the covenants, the historical background and cultural setting, and the practical applications of the Scriptural message to modern times. Class 3. Prerequisites: BIBL 1033 and BIBL 1043. (Fall)

An historical, hermeneutical, and theological examination of the Historical Books of the Old Testament including the Former Prophets, (Joshua, Judges, Samuel, and Kings) as well as the post-exilic historical writings (the work of the Chronicler, Ezra-Nehemiah and Esther). Particular attention will be given to issues of Hebrew historiography, its development, and literary techniques. Class 3. Prerequisites: BIBL 1033 and BIBL 1043. (Spring)

A detailed study of the books of Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Lamentations and Song of Solomon. Included is a study of Hebrew poetical forms with special attention given to the wisdom, devotional, and Messianic elements of the Poetical Books. Class 3. Prerequisites: BIBL 1033 and BIBL 1043. A study of the major themes of the Pre-Exilic Prophets ( Isaiah, Jeremiah, Hosea, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah) within their historical setting and literary context.
