Texas A & M University-Commerce
Architecture-Music-Philosophy. Three semester hours. (Capstone) The purpose of the course will be to study the relationships between architecture, music and philosophy in several selected historical periods from Greek Civilization to the 20th Century. In addition to studying specific content areas of each discipline, the influence of each area on the others will be investigated and students will be expected to develop maxims and to synthesize the information into broader contexts. These contexts will include: The formation of ethical systems by individuals and societies, the rationale for determining aesthetic values, the epistemological assumptions for accepting knowledge, apriori and empirical methods of reasoning, metaphysical arguments concerning the nature of existence, etc. Since cultures articulate all these considerations through architecture, music and philosophy, we understand our own times and other periods by studying these interrelationships. Prerequisite: Junior standing.%
