An introductory course in the major areas of graphic communications design. Studies involve layout, type specification, drawing from reproduction, design, mechanical art and reproduction. 3 credits (Fall)

A study of typography including photographic and computer generated images. Emphasis is on contemporary uses through the dynamics of shape, texture, color and function for multiple design purposes. The use of the computer and related software will also be explored. Prerequisite: Grade C or above in ART 101, GRA 103. 3 credits (Spring)

An initial supervised work experience in local agencies, firms or specialized studios to permit practical application of professional knowledge and skill. College seminars analyze principles, problems, current practices and new trends in all phases of design. Prerequisite: Grade C or above in GRA 207, CPA of 2.0 or above in area of concentration; Completion of 12 hours of program designated course work and permission of Cooperative Education Coordinator. In addition to the requirements noted above, all Graphic Design Students should have completed a professional resume and portfolio. 3 credits (Fall, Spring)

Explores opportunities to image based artists. Commercial and artistic career paths are addressed through examination of topics including grant writing; exhibition proposals, studio organization, quotes and contracts, professional organizations and memberships, fee structure, and ethical conduct. Students learn the values and work environments of career options available to photographers and graphic designers' resumés,business card, promotional piece, and conventional and digital portfolio preparation are emphasized. Grade C or above in GRA 103, GRA 106, PHO 201. 3 credits (Fall)

Supervised experience to provide further application of knowledge and skills in a position of broader responsibility. College-sponsored seminars and/or individual conferences correlating classroom work with the development of professionalism on the job and effective communication among clients, fellow employees and supervisory personnel. Prerequisite: Grade of C or above in GRA 109, CPA of 2.0 or above in area of concentration; Completion of 12 hours of program designated course work and permission of Cooperative Education Coordinator. 3 credits (Fall, Spring)

Development of creative problemsolving skills for advertising. Media formats include mail out, magazine, menu design, package design, poster, album and book covers. Study of illustration technique included. The use of computer and related multimedia, illustration and image editing software will be explored. Prerequisite: Grade C above in GRA 103, GRA 106, PHO 201. 3 credits (Fall).

Advanced graphic design processes include the development of effective design pieces and advertising campaigns including an intensive group project involving appropriate use of visual semiotics and formal presentation of such. Conventional and electronic media, print and multimedia formats such as web design and time-based animation will be examined with an emphasis on interface design and thematic development. Prerequisite: Grade of C or above in GRA 207, GRA 221. 3 credits (Fall)
