Prevention and care of athletic injuries with emphasis on qualities of a good athletic trainer, avoiding accidents and injuries, recognizing signs and symptoms of specific sports injuries and conditions, immediate and long-term care of injuries, and administration procedures in athletic training. Three lecture hours each week. Corequisite: PHED 2356.

Describes the legal and ethical constraints governing technician responsibilities and pharmacist responsibilities in various settings. Sixteen classroom hours. Co-requisites: PHRA 1345, 1349, 1441, and 2266. Prerequisites: PHRA 1313, 1305, 1301, 1266, 1309 and BIOL 1409.

Two hours credit. Practical, general workplace training supported by an individualized learning plan developed by the employer, college and student. A health practicum is an unpaid learning experience. 240 practicum hours. Co-requisites: PHRA 1313, 1305, 1301, 1309, and BIOL 1409.

Three hours credit. An overview of qualifications, operational guidelines, and job duties of a pharmacy technician. Topics include definitions of a pharmacy environment, the profile of a pharmacy technician, legal and ethical guidelines, job skills and duties, verbal and written communication skills, professional resources, safety techniques, and supply and inventory techniques. Forty-eight classroom hours. Co-requisites: PHRA 1313, 1305, 1266, 1309, and BIOL 1409.

Three hours credit. Pharmaceutical mathematics including reading, interpreting and solving calculation problems encountered in the preparation and distribution of drugs. Conversion of measurements within the apothecary, avoirdupois, and metric systems with emphasis on the metric system of weight and volume. Topics include ratio and proportion, percentage, dilution and concentration, milliequivalents, units, intravenous flow rates, and solving dosage problems. Forty-eight classroom hours. Co-requisites: PHRA 1313, 1305, 1301, 1266 and BIOL 1409.

Three hours credit. Introduction to the skills necessary to interpret, prepare, label, and maintain records of physicians' medication orders and prescriptions in a community pharmacy. Designed to train individuals in the administration of supply, inventory, and data entry. Topics include customer service, count and pour techniques, prescription calculations, drug selection and preparation, over-the-counter drugs, record keeping, stock level adjustment, data input and editing, and legal parameters. Forty-eight classroom hours. Co-requisites: PHRA 1305, 1309, 1266, 1301 and BIOL1409. Lab fee.

A study of sterile products, hand washing techniques, pharmaceutical calculations, references, safety techniques, aseptic techniques in parenteral compounding, proper use of equipment, preparation of sterile products, and safe handling of anti-neoplastic drugs. Thirty-two classroom and thirty-two lab hours. Prerequisites: PHRA 1313, 1305, 1301, 1266, 1309, and BIOL 1409. Co-requisites: PHRA 1102, 1349, 1441 and 2366. Lab fee.

Three hours credit. Exploration of the unique role and practice of pharmacy technicians in an institutional pharmacy with emphasis on daily pharmacy operations. Topics include hospital pharmacy organization, work flow and personnel, medical and pharmaceutical terminology, safety techniques, data entry, packaging and labeling operations, extemporaneous compounding, inpatient drug distribution systems, unit dose chart fills, quality assurance, drug storage, and inventory control. Forty-eight classroom hours. Prerequisites: PHRA 1313, 1305, 1301, 1266, 1309 and BIOL 1409. Co-requisites: PHRA 1345, 1102, 1441, and 2366. Lab fee.
