Basic notation, intervals, scales, and modes; rhythms; contrapuntal harmony, written and keyboard; sight singing; ear training; harmonic and form analysis. Five lectures. Both courses required of all Music majors. Prerequisite: MUSC 1010 or passing score on entrance examination in theory.

Practical training for the ear. Emphasis is on gaining the ability to write down rhythms, melodies, and harmonic progressions. To be taken concurrently with MUSC 1210. Prerequisite: MUSC 1011 or passing score on entrance examination in theory.
