    This course is designed for the beginning or less experienced rider, l4 years and older, who wants to learn to ride in a safe manner. Learn the operation of controls, basic maneuvers, street riding, defensive riding, and handling emergencies. The student will be coached to develop mental and physical skills of basic control that include: clutch/throttle control, straight line riding and stopping, turning, shifting, cornering, swerving and risk management. If you have significant difficulty and cannot meet the minimum objective of the range exercises, become a risk to yourself or others or commit an unsafe act, you will not be permitted to continue to ride. Successfully complete both the written and skills test and receive a certificate from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation and the state of Tennessee. You are then eligible for a discount on liability insurance and earn an exemption from the state motorcycle operator's license skill and written examinations. Students must provide the following equipment: long-sleeve shirt or jacket; full-length pants (jeans or other sturdy material); leather or heavy cloth gloves; over-the-ankle boots; a helmet complete with face shield (helmet available from instructors); and rain gear. Classes are conducted rain or shine. Motorcycles will be provided. Note: An additional $45 lab fee (payable by cash or check) will be required the first night of class for insurance coverage. All classes will be conducted on Friday evenings 6-10 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Safety and Refund Policy: Students must be able to ride a bicycle and be coordinated and strong enough to handle the added weight and power of a motorcycle. Shifting gears on a motorcycle may be challenging for some beginners. Some preliminary practice will improve the student s chance of successfully completing the skills test. Students are encouraged to arrive at least 15 minutes early for each class period. Valuable instruction is given each class period that is necessary for students in order to continue the class. Students who arrive late to any class, who drop motorcycles, or who demonstrate a safety risk to themselves or others will be dismissed from the class without refund. Students who show up late or fail to show up for class without officially withdrawing at least 2 full business day prior to the first day of class, will NOT receive refunds. All classes will begin as scheduled.     This course is designed for those individuals with at least 1,000 miles of motorcycle riding experience. Topics include advanced maneuvers, skid control, counter-steering, and management of complex situations. Students must provide the following equipment: long-sleeve shirt or jacket; full-length pants (jeans or other sturdy material); leather or heavy cloth gloves; over-the-ankle boots; a helmet complete with face shield; rain gear; and a safe street ready motorcycle. You must show proof of insurance on the motorcycle and the cycle must pass a safety inspection. Students successfully completing this course will receive a certificate from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation and the State of Tennessee, making them eligible for a discount on liability insurance. Note: An additional $10 will be required the day of the class for insurance coverage.     Do you know the laws concerning the owning, transporting, or discharging of a handgun Do you know how to handle a handgun safely These subjects will be covered in an eight-hour firearms safety workshop that will take you through the legal rights of handgun ownership, as well as teach you the safe and proper usage of a handgun. Students are encouraged to bring their own unloaded small caliber pistols to the firing range on Saturday. Students must provide their own ammunition. A small number of .38 caliber pistols are available for student use. The course will be divided between a one-night, four-hour classroom lecture/discussion and a Saturday morning on the firing range for a four-hour session. Note: This course satisfies the state of Tennessee training requirements for a Tennessee resident to apply for a permit to carry a firearm. Tennessee Residents must show proof of citizenship or legal residency.
