NUR 248: Nursing-Child&Adults IVB

6 Credits Nursing & Public Safety Nursing Part One: An investigation of how psychopathological processes interfere with satisfying basic human needs of children and adults is covered. Application of the nursing process in meeting these needs is explored. Students are required to meet specified criteria when demonstrating cognitive, psychomotor, and interpersonal skills. Part Two: This course explores professional trends and issues, synthesizes knowledge and skills acquired in previous courses, and analyzes the problem of organizing and managing the care of a group of patients. The primary intent of Part Two is to aid in the transition from student to graduate. Students are required to meet specified criteria when demonstrating cognitive, psychomotor, and interpersonal skills. Observations in community agencies may be required in addition to usual class time. Course hours vary by week but are equivalent to 6 hrs. lect. and seminar; 14 hrs. clinical laboratory x 7 weeks. Prerequisite: NUR 247. Students must pass NUR 248 Part One in order to take NUR 248 Part Two.

2 Credits Undeclared division Health and Safety Institute This course is designed for personnel in the private sector interested in teaching the 10- and 30-hour construction safety and health outreach program to their employees and other interested groups. Special emphasis is placed on those topics that are required in the 10- and 30-hour programs as well as on those that are the most hazardous, using OSHA standards as a guide. Course participants are briefed on effective instructional approaches and the effective use of visual aids and handouts. This course allows students to become a trainer in the Outreach Program and to conduct both a 10- and 30-hour construction and safety health course and to issue cards to participants verifying course completion. This course is OSHA approved for 2.6 CEUs and 4.0 CMs. Prerequisite: HSI 185: OSHA 510 Construction Standards or equivalent and five years of construction safety experience. Note: Students in this course who wish to participate as authorized trainers in the Outreach Program must successfully pass a written exam at the end of the course. Outreach trainers are required to attend the OSHA 502 course, Update for Construction Industry Outreach Trainers, at least once every four years to maintain their trainer status. All participants must bring a current copy of the OSHA construction regulations, 29 CFR 1926, to the course. Private sector personnel who are not interested in conducting the 10- and 30-hour programs should enroll in HSI 185: OSHA 510 Construction.

Rights and responsibilities under the OSHA Act, the appeals process, and recordkeeping are covered. The course also includes an introduction to OSHA's general industry standards and an overview of the requirements of the more frequently referenced standards. This course allows the student to become a trainer in the Outreach Program and to conduct both a 10- and 30-hour general industry course and issue cards to participants verifying course completion. This course is OSHA approved for 2.6 CEUs and 4.0 CMs. Prerequisite: HSI 728: OSHA 511 General Industry Standards or 30 Hour General Industry course plus five years of related experience. Note: Students in this course who wish to participate as authorized trainers in the Outreach Program must successfully pass a written exam at the end of the course. Outreach trainers are required to attend OSHA 503 at least once every four years to maintain their trainer status. A copy of the CFR will be given to you on the first day of the training.

2 Credits Undeclared division Health and Safety Institute This course prepares experienced trainers to present OSHA's 16-hour Disaster Site Worker Course. Trainers for this course need to be able to apply the elements of successful adult training programs, along with specific knowledge, skills, and attitudes to awareness training about safety and health hazards at natural and man-made disaster sites. Trainers are given the opportunity to practice knowledge, skills, and attitudes through discussion, planned exercises, demonstrations and presentations. Participants receive lesson plans and training materials for the Disaster Site Worker Course as well as information on training techniques and resources.
