    3 Credits Business,Professional Studies Networking The purpose of Configuring LAN Switches is to teach network administrators how to build campus networks using multilayer switching technologies over high speed Ethernet. Students study virtual local area networks (VLANs) and VLAN Trunking Protocol (VTP), spanning tree protocol (STP), inter-VLAN routing, and multilayer switching. Topics also include designing redundancy into networks, convergence of data, voice, and video, quality of service, LAN security, and transparent LAN services. Course fee. Prerequisite: NET 204.

FreeBSD is a powerful, flexible, and cost-effective UNIX-based operating system, and the preferred server platform for many enterprises. This class also includes coverage of installation, networking, add-on software, security, network services, system performance, kernel tweaking, file systems, SAMBA, Apache, upgrading, monitoring, crash debugging, BSD in the office, and emulating other Operating Systems. Students will learn how to configure a FreeBSD-based server as a firewall, a DHCP server, a DNS server, a file server, and a web server. Prerequisite: NET 102 or by advisement.

In addition, this course teaches the student the skills required to manage, monitor, and troubleshoot Network Address Translation and Certificate Services. Course fee. Prerequisite: NET 170.

In addition, this course teaches the skills required to manage, monitor, and optimize the desktop environment by using Group Policy. Course fee. Prerequisite: NET 222.

    3 Credits Business,Professional Studies Networking The student will develop the knowledge required by system administrators, network administrators, and IT professionals who implement, manage, and troubleshoot existing network and server environments based on the Microsoft Windows platform. These skills are generally required in medium-to-large size organizations that maintain several user desktops and servers, spanning multiple physical locations via Large Area Networks (LANs) and the Internet or Intranets. Additionally, this course provides the skills and knowledge required to prepare for a Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) Exam. Prerequisite: NET 170 or equivalent.

    4 Credits Business,Professional Studies Networking Students will analyze the business requirements and design a directory service architecture, including unified directory services such as Active Directory and Windows NT domains; connectivity between and within systems, system components, and applications; and data replication such as directory replication and database replication. In this course students acquire the skills required to analyze the business requirements for desktop management and to design a solution for desktop management that meets business requirements. Students will develop the knowledge and skills to deploy and manage Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2000 in an enterprise environment. Three of the major job roles performed by IT professionals to be addressed by this course include Web administrators, network administrators, and security administrators. Prerequisite: NET 224.

    1 Credit Nursing & Public Safety Nursing An overview of skills and concepts necessary to enter second-semester Nursing is presented in this course, which is designed for the student who seeks advanced placement. Topics include the philosophy and conceptual framework of the Nursing program, legal and ethical issues of nursing practice, and the nursing process as a framework for care. Students are required to meet specified criteria when demonstrating cognitive, psychomotor, and interpersonal skills. Students are required to be certified in Healthcare Provider CPR prior to entering NUR 130. Students who do not satisfactorily complete this course may not repeat it; they must take NUR 131. The class is scheduled prior to the beginning of the academic semester when needed. Students who are unsatisfactory in NUR 131 may not take this course to waive NUR 131.

    6 Credits Nursing & Public Safety Nursing The role of the Nursing graduate in the healthcare system is defined. Basic human needs of children and adults and the nursing process as a conceptual framework for the study and practice of nursing are introduced. The course also explores variations in human needs related to differences in age, lifestyle, culture, and health status. Students are required to meet specified criteria when demonstrating cognitive, psychomotor, and interpersonal skills. Students are required to be certified in Healthcare Provider CPR prior to entering NUR 131. Students who are unsatisfactory in NUR 131 may NOT take NUR 130 to waive NUR 131. 3 hrs. lect.; 4 hrs. clinical lab; 2 hrs. college lab. Lab fee. Prerequisites or corequisites: BIO 107, SCI 107, or BIO 201, PSY 101.

    4 Credits Nursing & Public Safety Nursing Psychosocial and physiologic stressors and musculoskeletal problems and how they interfere with satisfying basic human needs of children and adults are explored in this course, as is the application of the nursing process to assist individuals and families in meeting these needs. Students are required to meet specified criteria when demonstrating cognitive, psychomotor, and interpersonal skills. Observations in community agencies may be required in addition to usual class time. 4 hrs. lect; 8 hrs. clinical lab; 2 hrs. college lab x 7 weeks. Lab fee. Prerequisites: NUR 131, BIO 107, SCI 107, or BIO 201. Prerequisites or corequisites: BIO 108, PSY 210.
