    3 Credits Social Sciences,EDU, & HUS Human Services A contrast in normal physical and mental development in young children, adolescents, adults, and the aged with persons who are developmentally disabled, physically disabled, mentally retarded, or mentally impaired is presented in this course. Topics include social welfare policy; societal attitudes; personal attitudes; parental reactions; early intervention programs; treatment approaches in social work; and human services for diagnosis, education, habilitation, and rehabilitation of the person with special needs. Classroom practice sessions are used to develop and improve direct care skills. Prerequisite or corequisite: HUS 103.

    3 Credits Social Sciences,EDU, & HUS Human Services This course is an introduction to the child welfare system, using a generalist approach for direct care practice. Students are introduced to services and policies in child welfare and have the opportunity to gain competence in specific skill areas including assessment, communication, problem-solving, conflict mediation, documentation, case management, teamwork, and ethical decision-making when working with children and families. Experimental methods of learning, such as role-plays, community site visits, and limited client contacts are utilized. Corequisite: HUS 103.

    3 Credits Social Sciences,EDU, & HUS Human Services Historical, biological, psychological, and social aspects of aging in our society are presented. Students examine aging as a stage in life and study the developmental tasks and life changes faced by the elderly in our society. Students also explore social welfare, social services, and social work, with an emphasis on direct practice skills as they apply to the aging individual in the community: local, county, regional, and contemporary society. Classroom practice sessions develop and improve skills in direct care of the elderly. Prerequisite or corequisite: HUS 103.

Specific topics include working with multicultural populations, counseling theories, assessment methods, effective counseling techniques, and ethical considerations. Classroom practice sessions are utilized to improve interviewing and counseling skills. Prerequisite: HUS 103.

    3 Credits Social Sciences,EDU, & HUS Human Services Designed to assist students in the acquisition of specific performance competencies in direct care practice, this course provides on-site field experiences at College-designated agencies. The field experience encompasses a total of 120 hours per semester. Responsibilities include direct work with individuals, groups, families, and agencies, as well as all other activities deemed necessary by the sponsoring agency. At the end of the practicum, students must demonstrate their mastery of fundamental competency areas to the field instructor. Prerequisites: HUS 103 and by advisement.     3 Credits Social Sciences,EDU, & HUS Human Services Students are required to participate in the equivalent of 11/2 days a week (10 hrs. a week/120 hrs. a semester) in lectures and work related to various human service disciplines. This experience involves direct work with individuals and groups, participation in staff activities, administrative tasks, planning, community organization, recording, evaluation, and other agency tasks. Students also participate in workshops, seminars, and in-service training. This is the first course of a sequence that provides practical learning experience in a community social welfare or private human service agency. A qualified practitioner supervises students.     3 Credits Social Sciences,EDU, & HUS Human Services This is the second course of a sequence that provides a continuation of lectures and supervised learning experiences in a human service agency. The student spends the equivalent of 11/2 days a week (10 hrs. a week/120 hrs. a semester) in lectures and work related to various human service disciplines. Direct work with individuals, groups, staff activities, community organization, recording, and evaluation supplement special projects or supervisory experience.     3 Credits Math,Science,ENGR, & TECH Industrial Technology This course is a basic computer course designed to give students knowledge of the programs utilized by draftspersons in the field. Programs such as Word, Excel, Paint, and Exploring are introduced, with the main focus being AutoCAD. Examples of commands to be explored are shapes, modifications, wire frame, and paper space. No previous drafting or computer experience is required.
