Utilizing lectures and small group activities, participants will acquire the ability to organize and manage staffing. The material covered during the course includes organization and staffing, organizing incidents and events, incident resource management, air operations, and incident and event planning.

    1 Credit Learning Center Employment Strategies Students clarify their career goals and focus on employment opportunities in their chosen major in this course. Students are introduced to the competencies required by employers, explore regional opportunities for employment, and examine the dynamics of the workplace. A section of this course is reserved for PACE students.

    1 Credit Learning Center Employment Strategies Students learn to systematically and assertively gather information about employment opportunities and develop appropriate job-search strategies that will lead to full-time employment upon graduation. Topics covered include the following: job seeking techniques and methods, network and contact systems, analysis of help-wanted ads, cover letters and applications, resume writing, references, interviewing skills and techniques, dealing with rejection, and what to do when hired.

    3 Credits Nursing & Public Safety Emer Medical Tech This course is the New York State Certified First Responder program. Completion of this course allows the student to sit for the New York State Department of Health First Responder Certification exams. The course provides training in the fundamentals of patient care in emergency circumstances. Course content includes general guidelines for responding to medical and traumatic emergencies, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and airway problems, as well as managing wounds and shock. Adult and Pediatric Patient assessment, history taking, and vital signs will also be covered. Observation in a hospital emergency room and with an ambulance crew is required.

Completion of this course and EMT 102 allows the student to sit for the New York State Basic EMT Certification exams. The course provides training in the fundamentals of patient care in emergency circumstances. Course content includes general guidelines for responding to medical and traumatic emergencies, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and airway problems, as well as managing wounds and shock. Adult and Pediatric Patient assessment, history taking, and vital signs will also be covered. Observation in a hospital emergency room and with an ambulance crew is required. Special fee applies.

    4 Credits Nursing & Public Safety Emer Medical Tech This course is the second half of the New York State Basic EMT Program. Completion of this course and EMT 101 allows the student to sit for the New York State Basic EMT Certification exams. The course provides training in the methods of dealing with medical emergencies, emergency childbirth, burns and hazardous materials, trauma and shock, and pediatrics. Observation in a hospital emergency room and with an ambulance crew is required. Special fee applies.

    3 Credits English,COM,For Lang, & PHI English Comp and Lit This course gives students extensive practice in the use of all English language skills, with particular emphasis on listening and speaking. The course is intended to help students talk about complex text in English with greater fluency and comprehension and to develop students' ability to utilize appropriate listening and speaking skills. Students will improve these language skills so that they can function successfully in academic settings. Prerequisites: Entering Student Assessment scores, individual interviews, and successful completion of ISP 051 or ISP 070.

    3 Credits English,COM,For Lang, & PHI English Comp and Lit Designed for ESOL students with advanced-level English language skills, this course focuses primarily on advanced grammar and sentence structure. Students learn not only to analyze their specific sentence-level weaknesses but also to develop strategies for improving their writing. Students study the development and organization of the short essay. Students are asked to read a variety of short essays and respond to them in writing. The course may be repeated once for credit, but does not satisfy English or Humanities requirements of the College. Prerequisite: Entering Student Assessment.

    3 Credits English,COM,For Lang, & PHI English Comp and Lit Students study authors and works ranging from the Classical era to early Medieval times. Extensive writing, with emphasis on analysis and other rhetorical forms, is a major component of the course. The course fulfills the ENG 101 College English I requirement. Open to all qualified students by advisement.
