0 Credits Undeclared division Driver Education Program You can brush up on your driving skills or sign up for additional driver training with 5 one-hour sessions. You have the option of being picked up at your home or another convenient location. This program includes admission to one of Ulster's 5-Hour Pre-licensing courses within a three- month period. (Be sure to register for your 5-Hour Pre- licensing Course when you register for this course.) Completion of the program enables you to take the New York State road test. A valid learner's permit is required.

0 Credits Undeclared division Driver Education Program The effects of alcohol/drugs on driving perceptions and defensive driving techniques are the emphasis of this class. At the conclusion, you will be issued an MV278 completion certificate, which is required to take the road test. You must bring your New York State Learner's Permit to class. This class meets the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles classroom requirement in driver safety education. You may bring a lunch requiring no refrigeration. ADVANCE REGISTRATION REQUIRED: Registration and full payment must be received by 10:00 am of the business day prior to the class start date. REMINDER: You MUST BE ON TIME for this class. NYS DMV requires all students attend and complete all 5 hours, therefore anyone who is late will not be admitted.

2 Credits Social Sciences,EDU, & HUS Early Childhood This course requires students to participate a minimum of 2 hours per week in approved early childhood programs under the supervision of qualified early childhood professionals and to attend weekly class sessions. The qualification for an approved early childhood placement site is that the head of the program possess New York State teacher certification for grades B-2 or holds a master's degree in Education. Must be taken concurrently with ECH 110.

Areas covered are the changing nature of K-12 education in contemporary society; roles and responsibilities of paraeducators and teachers; child and adolescent development and learning; classroom and behavior management; instructional strategies to improve student learning; and the paraeducator's role in assessment, diagnosis, and evaluation.

Among the areas covered are a review of the historical, philosophical, and legal foundations of special education; definitions, characteristics, prevalence, educational approaches, and placement alternatives for different exceptionalities; and current trends and issues in special education.

3 Credits Social Sciences,EDU, & HUS Education Students learn research-based instructional strategies, activities, and assessments to support the paraprofessional in improving students' reading and writing abilities. Among the areas covered are phonological and phonemic awareness, alphabet recognition and phonics, decoding, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, and writing. Writing topics include the writing process, types and purposes of writing, and a variety of writing products. An emphasis will be placed on strategies for one-on-one and small group instruction.
