Building on your medical education and possible clinical experience, this course prepares participants to advise law firms, health care providers, insurance companies, and governmental agencies regarding medically related issues and to testify in court as expert witnesses. "Coping Styles," including withdrawal, internalizing, impulsive reactions, and a tendency toward over-controlling will be explored using self-administered surveys. The communication skills portion will identify healthy and unhealthy verbal and non-verbal communication styles. Participants will learn what influences both anger and communication styles, and learn how to manage them. A "Listening Skills" worksheet will be reviewed to better understand how important listening can be. Verbal cues like volume, tone and meaning will be reviewed. Non-verbal communication cues like body language, appearance, odor, personal space, prejudices, social status and the nature of being disabled will also be discussed.
