(2 credits) An introduction to the early childhood profession including an emphasis on professionalism and developmentally appropriate practice. Includes an overview of history of early education, theoretical program models, different types of early childhood programs, community resources, professional organizations and contemporary trends and issues in programs for children ages birth to nine. Field experience required. The class meets two hours per week. F

(3 credits) A study of the basic principles and practices of safety, health and nutrition as they relate to the early childhood setting, home and community for children ages birth to nine. Also included is a study of principles of creating appropriate learning environments for young children. Field experience required. The class meets three hours per week. F

(3 credits) A study of developmentally appropriate practices and the teacher's role in supporting development of young children ages birth to nine. An emphasis on curriculum planning including goals, environment, roles of teachers and parents, materials and settings. Field experience required.
