1.00 Credits
Assists students in completing research projects in any content area course by providing assistance in writing effective research papers using a step-by-step process approach. Course content includes selecting and narrowing topics; writing thesis statements; outlining; locating and documenting sources; taking notes; writing introductions, body paragraphs, and conclusions; and writing rough and final drafts. Students work with projects already assigned in other content area courses.

Prerequisite: DSPW 0700, 0800; Description: This course introduces students to the process of research, specifically oriented to the workplace. Topics include both primary and secondary sources, such as interviews, library and internet searches. This course will also emphasize source evaluation and legal/ethical concerns.

Prerequisites: (1) Status as an international student whose native language is not English. (2) The minimum proficiency in English that is required of foreign students for admission to the University (500 minimum score on TOEFL). This is a one-year series of courses designed to meet the special linguistic needs of international students of permanent residents whose native language is not English. ENGL 1210-1220 do not satisfy the communication requirement in the Liberal Arts core, nor do they count toward graduation. ENGL 1210-1220 do NOT satisfy the ENGL 1010 and ENGL 1020 requirement, but they do count toward semester accumulated hours. Description: Development of English language skills: reading, writing, speaking and listening.

English 2010 provides the opportunity, through reading, discussion, and short projects, to analyze short stories and a novel in terms of their literary characteristics. This course is designed to give students experience in reading and interpreting literature.

Description: Survey of American literature from the time of English colonization through the Civil War. Examines the works of significant writers of fiction, poetry, and non-fiction taking into account the events in history that influenced them.

Prerequisite: ENGL 1020; Description: This course introduces students to the basic principles of effective report writing. Written assignments provide practice in organizing and composing several memos, letters, and a formal report. Throughout the semester, students learn practical application of report writing skills, as well as work collaboratively on assignments. Students evaluate and create documents and PowerPoint presentations, focusing on clear expression of ideas, mechanical correctness, and format.

Prerequisite: ENGL 1010; Description: This course focuses on business writing. Students write professional correspondence, such as emails, letters, and memos, and are introduced to basic marketing materials, such as press releases. Attention is given to writing research material, such as questionnaires. Ethical/legal issues are also addressed

Description: This course focuses on developing comprehensible and useful content for websites. Students critique the writing style of current web pages and then design online documentation and develop appropriate online copy.

Prerequisite: Since a substantial amount of writing is required for the course, students must complete ENGL 1010, 1020; Description: A survey of American masterpieces from the Civil War to the present.
