(Prereq: declared major in music or permission of the instructor) The Group Piano for Music Majors sequence develops practical keyboard skills needed for a career in the field of music. Functional keyboard skills such as scales, arpeggios, chord progressions, harmonization, transposition, sight reading, score reading, accompanying, and performance of keyboard literature will be developed to give students the necessary tools to be successful for the keyboard proficiency degree requirement and in their chosen profession. This course introduces fundamental skills needed for further technical and musical growth. Students may opt to test out of this course and be placed into either MUSC A138 or MUSC A237 with permission of the instructor.

(Prereq: MUSC A137 or permission of the instructor) The Group Piano for Music Majors sequence develops practical keyboard skills needed for a career in the field of music. Functional keyboard skills such as scales, arpeggios, chord progressions, harmonization, transposition, sight reading, score reading, accompanying, and performance of keyboard literature will be developed to give students the necessary tools to be successful for the keyboard proficiency degree requirement and in their chosen profession. This course continues the development of fundamental skills introduced in MUSC A137 through demonstration of common finger patterns, scales and arpeggios, chord progressions, harmonization, simple accompaniment, introductory improvisation, and basic sight-reading skills. Students may opt to test out of this course and be placed into MUSC A237 with permission of the instructor.

(Prereq: declared major in music) Introduction to Applied Violin provides individualized instruction for continued development of professional musical skills. Course objectives include the development of fundamentals in core musicianship, introduction to basic repertoire, and preparation for acceptance into the music program. Course may be repeated until acceptance into music studies.

(Prereq: consent of department chair) Applied Violin for the Non-Major provides individualized instruction for students seeking improvement of musical skills, introduction to a varied repertoire for personal enrichment, and development of performance skills. Course may be repeated for credit.
