Work ten to twelve hours each week alongside a senior level manager in a business. This course can be taken up to two times for a maximum of six earned credit hours.     This course provides an overview of modern corporate financial methods with an emphasis on practical financial decisions that firms in the real world need to make on a regular basis. Conceptually the course can be divided into two parts: a) Investment decisions (how firms should spend money) and b) Financing Decisions (how firms should raise money). Topics include the cost of capital, capital structure, valuation, issuing securities, derivatives and risk management. This course takes the perspective of the corporate financial manager attempting to pursue strategies that increase shareholder wealth.

    This course provides an introduction to the financial markets (entities that sell stocks, bonds and foreign currencies) and the key financial institutions (banks, insurance companies, mutual funds, government entities etc.). Financial markets play a critical role in the efficient functioning of the market economy. The financial institutions are the organizations that allow the financial markets to function properly. This course teaches the fundamental ideas that govern interaction of these markets and the related institutions and why this matters for business. It will teach the inner workings of the Banking sector, the Federal Reserve and how they relate with financial intermediaries. Particular attention will be paid to risk management and how the various markets and institutions can fail to properly interact with each other.

    This course is a hands-on course in spreadsheet and financial modeling, primarily using Microsoft Excel, and covers various topics in financial management and investments. The emphasis is on the practical application of financial theory. Students will develop skills in the quantitative analysis of financial decisions. Particular attention will be paid to enterprise valuation, quantifying risks, and risk management.
