This course will explore the fundamental techniques of stage combat including handto- hand combat, single blade swashbuckling, small sword pointwork, rapier-dagger, broadsword, quarterstaff, and found object weapons. Historical context and the history of personal combat will be an integral part of this training. In addition, slapstick comedy techniques, illusions of contact, incidental contact, basic tumbling techniques, and elementary juggling will be introduced. Special attention will be paid to the unique acting problems presented by stage combat. 3 credits.
