This course focuses on effective classroom and behavior management strategies with emphasis on students in grades K-8 (mild/moderate disabilities). Individual and group management strategies using a variety of techniques based upon behavioral, cognitive, and humanistic psychological theories are presented. SED 410: Student Teaching in Special Education

Student teaching is a full-time assignment under the supervision of a cooperating teacher and university supervisor. The setting is with an experienced teacher who has students with mild/moderate disabilities in grades K-8. The student will gradually assume full responsibility for teaching in the assigned program. The students are required to follow the calendar of the school to which they have been assigned while student teaching. A weekly seminar is required during which the experience component continues to be balanced by periods of analysis and evaluation of the teaching-learning process. Students will produce a licensure portfolio by the end of the semester and be interviewed for recommendation for initial licensure. Prerequisite: Acceptance to Student Teaching and concurrent enrollment in EDC430. 6 credits.
