    This workshop is a fundamental introduction to programming and gaming. Originally developed as part of a research project in Virtual Reality, Alice lets you be director of a movie, or creator of a video game where 3D objects in an on-screen virtual world move around according to the directions you give them. Alice's 3D Interactive Graphics Programming Environment uses program visualization to create an easy relationship between program construct and animation action in a 3D world. Topics include: Program design and implementation (scenarios and storyboards) in OOP (Object Oriented Programming), objects, methods events/events handling, decision statements, control structures, loops functions and parameter passing. No previous experience required.

    In this workshop you'll learn how to arrange images into a slide show with PowerPoint. PowerPoint is an essential tool to use for all sorts of presentations. A Power Point slide show can be a valuable tool for teaching, sharing and learning. We will work together to build a slide show from scratch. Topics include: * opening PowerPoint and maneuvering through the program * selecting what kind of layout works best for your presentation * working with the editing mode to build your slide show, creating new slides, inserting your images, and accessing all of the tools that PowerPoint provides * bringing in a picture to include in your show including using Adobe Photoshop * how to draw on a slide * ways to view the slide show * how to change the background color of the slide show * how to make a slide open with a dissolve or a wipe * how to create forward and back arrow * show to put a shadow under a picture * how to use PowerPoint clip art * how to make several images appear on a slide one after another * publishing your slide show and saving it

    XML (Extensible Markup Language) is one of the most popular industry formats for document publishing and web application development. This course will provide a complete overview of XML. You will start with a basic introduction to the components of an XML document and motivational look at the benefits of XML. Then, you will learn how to create a valid (well-formed) XML document using an XML Editor. You will write your own Document Type Definitions (DTDs) and XML Schemas used for validation. You will also learn how to use Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) with XML including XSL (Extensible Stylesheet Language). The course is ideal for anyone interested in next-generation publishing, including web masters, programmers, web developers, technical writers/editors, and print publishers who want to gain a working knowledge of XML. NOTE: This course will not cover XML Web Services.
