This course will provide a foundation of information technology concepts and application development in a global context. Students are expected to learn how various information technologies can be used to strengthen the business competitiveness globally, how information culture may vary in different countries, and how this variation may impact the adoption of information technologies. Students are expected to learn managerial issues pertaining to development of global information systems. Major topics include business information systems, information ethics and social issues, security, database fundamentals, telecommunication, e-commerce, m-commerce and traditional and emerging systems development methodologies. Session Cycle: Fall Yearly Cycle: Annual This course introduces fundamental concepts and techniques of designing and producing content for the World Wide Web. Students will learn to effectively plan a web site by evaluating its audience, defining the site's goals, examining competitors' sites, developing a relevant site structure and layout, andusing tools to create a web site. Content development issues include writing content for the web and developing effective navigation strategies. Graphic design topics include visual design, page layout, typography, integration of multimedia assets, and the use of color. Students will also learn to identify usability and accessibility issues including those relating to the Americans with Disabilities Act and to development of web sites for international audiences. The students will study a variety of software technologies relevant to web site design, implementation, and production. It challenges students to use critical thinking and analysis to find efficient and effective solutions to real-life situations. Session Cycle: Fall, Spring and Summer Yearly Cycle: Annual This course is designed for all business majors and CIS minors who wish to improve their information literacy and gain skills in using micro-based application software to effectively make decisions and solve business problems in organizations. Students will discuss contemporary issues impacting technology, and will learn how to evaluate software and develop, manage and implement micro-based software applications. Students will be provided with hands on experience working with (1) the advanced features of Microsoft OFFICE Professional (2) integrating OFFICE applications to solve business problems, prepare reports and presentations and (3) linking applications to the World Wide Web. In addition to OFFICE, students will be exposed to several different types of application programs during the course. This is a required course for CIS majors and minors.
