Focuses on specific training tools for premarital therapy and supporting a healthy marriage. The training provided certifies students to become facilitators who administer and use a specific relationship inventory and exercises (Prepare/Enrich) with couples in all stages of relationship. Attention is given to practical interventions that helping professionals (counselors, pastors, social workers, ministry leaders) can use with couples for premarital therapy and marraiage enrichment.

Designed to enhance each student's knowledge and skill development of the coaching language and methodology as we work effciently with clients. Using the Coaching model allows the individual (Practitioner) to have a professional process of answering the call of the Great Commission, making disciples (Matthew 28:19-20). This foundational course goes in-depth into the following subjects as related to the life coaching industry and how it relates to you as the practitioner and/or helper guide.

Equips Christian counselors with diagnostic and therapeutic tools and a different approach, a Christ-centered community approach, to healing the wounds of the individuals and communities we serve. Exploration, discussion, and practical application will be emphasized. Case discussions on ADHD, substance abuse, and eating disorders will be considered.

Provides a biblical model for people who work with families and couples where domestic violence is an issue. It provides further development to issues of domestic violence, sexual assault, and dating violence. The training will cover theological issues and domestic abuse, theological roadblocks for victims of abuse, theological issues with batterers and offenders, and faith community models in prevention and intervention.

This course focuses on aspects of emotional pain and healing regarding death and dying, grief forgiveness, and guilt. Includes the stages of grief by Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, how to work with families dealing with death and loss, and a biblical model of guilt and forgiveness. This class powerfully and vividly illustrates how to guide clients in their journey from pain and anger to the freedom found in forgiveness. Students will have the opportunity to advance their clinical skills by gaining a practical working knowledge of the research-based principles of forgiveness.

This course offers an alternative view of depression with an analysis of its complexities, its numerous symptom patterns, its diagnostic array of biological & environmental/psychological predisposing factors, & its most severe consequence, suicidal ideation & behavior. This is discussed with an eye toward the underlying purpose of depression, & keeping in mind the compassionate view that God has of His servants who suffer from it. Included in this analysis are the spiritual sterotypes of depression & distorted concepts of God often encounted among Christians. Intervention strategies including proper use of medication and therapeutic tools for counselor are discussed.

This course provides a biblical approach to understanding and responding to those personally and privately struggling wtih sexual brokenness. As our culture embraces various sexual expressions, many inside and outside the church experience the pain and hopelessness of unwanted sexual hunger and desire. We will take an overall look at how healthy biblical sexuality has been derailed and how to counsel others to put it back on track. Topic and case examples will include homosexuality, adultery, pornography, and sexual impulsivities.

Skills for working with additions is a necessity for today's counselors. Understanding the brain's role in creating and maintainng addictions is crucial to working with clients with chemical and/or behavioral addictions. This weeked elective will lay the physical and theoretical foundation for understanding addiction along with many practical exercises utilizing Michael Dye's Genesis Change Process. After this course you will be able to give your clients clinical understanding and practical tools for addressing this rapidly growing problem inside and outside of the church.

This course will focus on equipping Christian counselors, pastors and lay leaders for their ministry to persons in end of life settings. The course will offer a biblical and theological perspectives on death and dying, current understandings of death in contemporary culture, and ministry strategies for pastoral and therapeutic care of the dying and their families.

Graduating students will need to "get the word out" about their new skills. They will need to communicate (promote) what they have to offer. This course will assist students in working towards building a counseling practice. Students will learn how to over come relunctances that prohibit them from building a successful practice. The fear of self-promotion will be addressed. Students will take an individualized assessment and receive training to remove reluctances, and move forward to make a living with their education.
