This course is designed to be a lab practicum in techniques and strategies for handling and training a young horse. Students will learn the behavior of young horses and the appropriate steps necessary to teach a young horse to accept a halter and grooming, to lead properly, stand to be tied, load into a trailer, ground training and saddle-breaking process. Students acquire the technical and theoretical knowledge of starting and training colts in the stock seat style of riding. Evaluation of student performance will be based upon attendance, attitude and willingness to learn, and progression of the young horse?s training. All students enrolling in this course should have proficient riding ability. The instructor reserves the right to ask the student to demonstrate riding ability if the instructor deems this necessary. A study of live animal form and function in beef cattle, dairy cattle, swine, sheep, and horses. Where applicable, slaughter animals as well as breeding animals are evaluated. (2 credit hours, 16 lecture hours, 32 lab hours)

This course is a three credit hour introductory course in range management. The course will explore a wide range of topics including, but not limited to, rangeland types, range plant physiology, range ecology, range condition, range livestock production, and range wildlife management. Two hours per week will be lecture and one hour per week will be dedicated to laboratory. (3 credit hours, 48 lecture hours, 32 lab hours)

This course is designed to teach students systems of evaluating conformation and for judging current horse show disciplines typically featured in intercollegiate horse judging contests. Emphasis will be on the stock-type (AQHA) halter and performance classes. Students will learn to place classes objectively and give written and oral justifications of their judgments. Introductory course in the application of microcomputers in the agricultural environment. Students will develop a management system in some aspect of the farm or ranch enterprise. Students will learn to use basic microcomputer programs to make spreadsheets, cash flow statements, and budgets. The use of the worldwide web to market agricultural products and services will also be covered. The student will exit the course with an understanding of how to effectively incorporate computers in an agricultural business. (3 credit hours, 48 lecture hours, 0 lab hours)
