In this foundation course for the Paramedic Program, students will be introduced into the world of paramedicine, learn the roles and responsibilities of a paramedic, review medical, legal and ethical issues, and learn foundations in pathophysiology, pharmacology and medication administration. Students will not be required to participate in clinical rotations during this course. Offered at GCTC

Students will learn the foundational aspects of respiratory system assessment and advanced airway management, patient assessment techniques, communications and documentation. Also included are trauma systems, pathophysiology, assessment and management of trauma emergencies. Students are required to complete clinical rotations in an operating room, critical care setting and EMS. Offered at GCTC

This course covers the pathophysiology, assessment and management of cardiac, respiratory and pediatric emergencies. The student is required to complete clinical rotations in Pediatrics, Emergency Departments and EMS. Offered at GCTC

Students will perform emergency care under the direct supervision of a licensed paramedic. Students will be required to take a major role in the care for ill and injured persons in the pre-hospital setting. Offered at GCTC

This course covers the pathophysiology, assessment and management of common medical emergencies. The student is required to complete clinical rotations in Psychiatrics, Emergency Departments, Labor and Delivery, Dialysis, and EMS. Offered at GCTC

3.00 Credits
This course will cover pathophysiology, assessment and management of special medical conditions. Included in this course are operational aspects such as, ambulance operations, rescue operations and, OSHA Certification Hazardous Materials Operations. A capstone class will review all aspects of the Paramedic program, included in this will be ACLS, PALS, PHTLS. Students will be required to participate in clinical rotations in EMS and a Physician internship. Offered at GCTC

Students will refine their knowledge of emergency care by concentrating on Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support and Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support. Upon completion of these topics, students will receive a certification for each area. Offered at GCTC

English as a Second Language covers the basic structures and patterns of English. The class stresses foundational work in English to promote further success in composition. It primarily serves non-native speakers but would also be helpful for native speakers who need a better foundation in formal or academic writing.

Basic Grammar is a study of grammar, punctuation, spelling, sentence structure, and paragraph development. This course addresses student deficiencies in language arts and writing identified by the ACT English Subset score or English placement exam. A grade of "C" or better will advance the student to ENG 0123.

Fundamentals of English is a study of paragraph development, essays, writing styles, and processes. This course addresses student deficiencies in language arts and writing identified by the ACT English Subset score or English placement exam. Prerequisite: appropriate score on placement test or completion of ENG 0113 with a grade of "C" or better. A grade of "C" or better will advance the student to ENG 1113
