Students will learn the theory and practice of typography and its use in page layout, identify the anatomy of a type, utilize an E-scale when measuring type, alignment, and design text and display type through live work projects. Offered at GCTC

This course offers instruction in the fundamentals of page layout through the use of Adobe InDesign and QuarkXPress. Students will also learn proofreading techniques, trapping, bleed, imposition, and identify common problems with digital files when preparing to print. Scanning and digital camera techniques are taught in this course. Students will learn Adobe Photoshop basics such as using tools and filters, creating drop shadows, bevels, glows, etc., and restoring photographs. Masking techniques and actions will be featured to streamline production. Offered at GCTC

This course is designed to introduce students to the proper safety techniques needed while on the job. Students will review an MSDS manual, fire safety procedures, ergonomic and lifting techniques, and ways to maintain a clean work environment. Offered at GCTC

2.00 Credits
Students will participate in projects that provide professional and personal development opportunities. These projects will enhance student employability skills, workplace etiquette, and workplace techniques needed in a global economy. Students will complete a self-assessment evaluation, practice goal setting, and learn employment interview skills. In addition, students will complete applications of employment, and create cover letters, résumés, and follow-up letters. Students will also participate in job shadowing activities, occupation research, and cultural diversity awareness and develop effective communication skills. Offered at GCTC

Students will develop layout and design skills through the study of eye flow, audience, elements/principles of design, emphasis, balance, color and typography. Team projects and role play will reinforce brainstorming, working with the client, researching, and developing the digital file. Offered at GCTC

The basics of computer illustration are covered in this course: tools and effects, color modes, style sheets, masking, blend, compound paths, type specialties, and vector animations. Students will learn the basics of FreeHand and Illustrator and prepare graphics for printing. Offered at GCTC

Students will learn the first steps to planning a project and managing the project to completion. Team projects will reinforce communication, brainstorming, research, evaluation, and presentation skills. Offered at GCTC

1.00 Credits
This course represents the culmination of the program of study involving either hypothetical or live assignments and incorporates all of the Graphic Designer coursework. A Graphic Designer portfolio of work produced will be required for job preparation and real job interviewing.

This course is a continuation of Basic Illustrator I.
