An introduction to the principles and techniques of counseling, psycho-dynamic, client-centered, Gestalt, eclectic, and other approaches will be examined. Prerequisite: PSYC 1203, PSYC 1113 or equivalent.

An introductory course which examines human sexuality from physiological, psychological, and sociological perspectives, with special emphasis on contemporary sexual issues and development of healthy interpersonal relationships. Prerequisite: PSYC 1113.

A laboratory course to teach participants to accurately observe the behaviors of children and adults in order to assess their needs in classrooms, child care, agencies seeking to help families, or medical settings. Types of observation and recording, the problems of observer bias, non-verbal behaviors, and listening skills will be emphasized. (Same as FSCD 2432.)

An introduction to scientific method in psychological research. Covers data collection and interpretation, philosophical issues, experimental design, and hypothesis formulation. Prerequisites: PSYC 1113 and College admission requirement in math must have been completed.

Growth and development of the child from conception to adolescence. Includes roles and responsibilities of parenthood, physical growth, intellectual growth, personality development, societal and family adjustment, and communication. (Same as HES 2523.)

This course concerns the study, understanding, and application of organizational behavior which is based on the analysis of microoriented individual concepts (perception, personality, motivation, and learning), groups and their dynamics (communication, conflict, stress, power, decision-making, and leadership), and organization structure and management processes at the macro end of the learning spectrum. Prerequisite: PSYC 1113.

A survey of abnormal behaviors, their current diagnostic criteria, causal factors, and treatment outcomes as defined in Diagnostic Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. Emphasis is on systematic descriptions of various mental disorders, theory and application through the use of case studies and commercial films. The course includes a review of common misconceptions, accepted definitions, and discussions of classification issues. Designed for psychology majors, it is useful for nursing, law enforcement, child development, and education majors who are interested in surveying the broad range of childhood, adolescent and adult disorders. It is also useful for institutional and agency care providers and other health professionals who seek updated information about current trends in the treatment and management of abnormal behaviors to enhance their careers. Prerequisite: PSYC 1113.

This course is designed to provide individualized instruction in fundamental reading and vocabulary skill development. Students will work with reading laboratory materials under the supervision of a Reading Specialist. This course is recommended for students who are preparing to enter the college program but have not mastered basic reading skills necessary for successful interaction with college-level material.
