An introduction to textiles including characteristics of natural and manufactured fibers, yarns, fabric structures, finishes, and color and design methods. Consumer awareness of the selection, use and care of textile fabrics used in apparel, accessories, and home furnishing.

A study of the principles of food composition, nutritive value, selection and preparation. Consideration will be given to planning, preparing, and serving meals adapted to economics and social needs of families.

Directed individual study of class in specific topics in Human Environmental Sciences. Topics to be determined by the program needs of students. May be repeated for a maximum of three credit hours. Permission of professor required.

The selection and construction of more difficult garments with special emphasis on fitting and alteration of patterns and garments. Prerequisite: HES 1213 or equivalent.

Nutrition is the study of nutrients in foods in relation to the physical development and health of a normal healthy person. Included is diet therapy needed during medical conditions that require specific dietary care.

To establish a full understanding of the fashion figure as related to fashion advertising. A study of the proportioned fashion figure from diagram form to interpretive sketches, including rendering fabrics.

An introductory overview of the fashion business: industries that provide the raw materials from which apparel and accessories are made; design, production, and marketing of women's and men's apparel; penetration of imports and foreign fashion producers; and retail operations. Career opportunities will be identified in all areas of the fashion industry.

To analyze the elements of design; which are line, space, shapes, color, texture, and principles of design, including balance, rhythm, proportion and scale, emphasis, unity, and variety. Related to the apparel industry and interior design.

This course includes a study of human development, behavior, and relations, with personal application to the individual and his/her family. (Same as SOC 2513).

Growth and development of the child from conception to adolescence. Includes roles and responsibilities of parenthood, physical growth, intellectual growth, personality development, societal and family adjustment, and communication. (Same as PSYC 2523).
