3.00 Credits
A study of the nature and scope of police power, as well as the extent and limitations thereof under the U.S. Constitution, Legislative Acts, and decisions by the various courts of the Judicial System of the U.S. The major focus will be on the statutes and procedures of Oklahoma, specifically portions of O.S. Titles 10, 21, 22, 37, and 63. This course is required of all Collegiate Officer Program students.

This course includes information regarding theories of juvenile delinquency, current rehabilitation models of juvenile offenders, substantive and procedural criminal law as it relates to juveniles, tracing the constitutional protections of juvenile offenders and a study of law enforcement's response to the juvenile justice system as it applies to the state of Oklahoma's juvenile code.

This course is designed to provide the criminal justice student and law enforcement practitioner with the fundamental information for a general overview of the field of criminal investigation. Information will be provided covering, but not limited to, criminal investigation equipment, investigative techniques, specific types of investigation/offenses, case preparations, courtroom testimony, and interviewing/interrogation techniques. This course is required of all Collegiate Officer Program students.

This is a basic course examining the actions which constitute unethical behavior of a criminal justice professional and their consequences. The student of criminal justice will understand the concepts of ethics in law enforcement, the courts, and corrections. This course is required of all Collegiate Officer Program students.

Development of skills in machine shorthand, especially arbitrates, phrases, words, and numbers. Emphasis will be on development of automatic response of high frequency words and phrases, and accurate, rapid reading of notes. Stenograph writer required for this class. Concurrent enrollment in CR 1513 is required. Lab fee: $7.00 [Fa (pm)] [Sp (pm)]

Intensive drill in the operation of the shorthand machine with live dictation covering each principle. Emphasis will be placed on rapid and accurate transcription of notes. Three 70 words per minute 3-minute literary dictation takes with 95% accuracy must be passed in order to continue to CR 1613. Prerequisite: CR 1503 or concurrent enrollment in CR 1503. Lab fee: $7.00

Continuation of the development of skills in machine shorthand, especially arbitrates, phrases, words, and numbers. Emphasis will be on development of automatic response of high frequency words and phrases, and accurate, rapid reading of notes. Lab fee $7.00. Prerequisite: CR 1503 or equivalent. Emphasis will be on proper transcription techniques for the production of mailable transcripts from live dictation at 80 to 110 words per minute with 95 percent accuracy. Two 110 words per minute three minute Q/A and two 100 words per minute 3 minute and two 5-minute literary and/or jury charge dictation takes with 95 percent accuracy and must be passed in order to continue to CR 2303. A basic knowledge of typewriting is assumed. Lab fee $7.00. Prerequisites: CR 1603 or concurrent enrollment in CR 1603. [Fa (pm)] [Sp (pm)]

Basic concepts and applications of computer-aided transcription (CAT) including scoping, editing, writing conflict-free theory, and realtime writing are studied. Development of a personal dictionary is required. DOS knowledge is assumed. Lab fee $7.00. Prerequisite: DOS knowledge is assumed.
