This course is a continuation of quantitative evaluation methods but will focus on qualitative methods of research, including content analysis. Students are introduced to evaluation design, reliability and validity, formative and process evaluation, and meta-analysis. The course helps students develop a theory-based measurement model to guide the evaluation. Students acquire the skills necessary to judge the impact of programs on health and quality-of-life outcomes as well as on behavioral and environmental risk. Students also learn methods of appraising the cost benefits of a health promotion program. This course will focus on teaching basic quantitative and qualitative methods in evaluation for both small and large databases.
